Grade 11 MCAS
Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s):
Please read the following information as it pertains to the unique circumstances of the class of 2022 (our current 11th grade students).
We appreciate your patience while we prepared this information about the upcoming administrations of the MCAS assessment. There is a lot of information contained in this email, so please be sure to review all applicable sections, and reach out to Assistant Principal Adam Goldberg via email at angoldberg@hudson.k12.ma.us should you have any questions or concerns.
Grade 11 MCAS Graduation Requirement & Optional Testing Information
At its April 20 meeting, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted to modify the state graduation requirements for students in grade 11 (the class of 2022) so that they would not need to pass the MCAS ELA and Mathematics tests to meet the state graduation requirement (as is already the case with the Science/STE part of the CD).
Grade 11 students who choose to take the MCAS ELA and Mathematics tests for scholarship purposes (Adams Scholarship and Koplik Certificate of Mastery Award) may do so in spring or fall 2021. Students who test this spring will have results this fall, in time to learn whether they qualify for scholarships before applying to colleges.
Additionally, those seeking to earn the state Seal of Biliteracy will also have to test in order to qualify for this distinction.
We encourage students/families to evaluate the criteria for these scholarships, the potential benefit to your family, and weigh the pros/cons of spending four mornings taking MCAS this spring versus waiting until next fall (when all classes will be meeting again, and students are better grounded in a structure and routine of school).
If students are interested in taking MCAS for scholarship purposes, we at Hudson High School strongly encourage our juniors to take the MCAS in the fall.
If you would like your student to test this spring, please email Adam Goldberg (angoldberg@hudson.k12.ma.us) no later than May 13th with your request and arrangements will be made.
