What We're Learning
Math - Students are diving into Unit 1! They will work with Place Value to the hundred thousands, Estimation and Rounding skills, U.S. Traditional Addition and Subtraction, and basic Geometry. They are busy learning and practicing several math games to practice Unit 1 concepts.
Writing - Students have been busy generating ideas for future writing. Next week, they will create the story of their name and take it through the writing process.
Science - During our science time this week, we are practicing using science process skills and reviewing lab safety. To practice process skills we did a couple of fun lab activities. The children made paper helicopters in one activity. During this activity they practiced following a procedure and creating a hypothesis. In another activity, they learned a science "trick" involving friction by putting a pencil through a bag of water. During this activity we practiced sharing results and asking questions.
Social Studies - We began our government unit by briefly learning about the United States when it first became a country. The children read part of the Declaration of Independence. In the upcoming week we will compare Missouri's Constitution to the U.S. Constitution and learn about the branches of Missouri's government.

Stability Wobble Cushions and Marble Fidgets
I have incorporated wobble cushions and marble fidgets into my classroom. The cushions are made to be sat upon and allows for appropriate movement so the student can focus better. In the same vein, the fidgets are small enough to be held in the hand. Students also use these to help them focus during the lesson. Your students have fallen in love with both of these tools and use them on a daily basis. However, I only have 6 wobble cushions to go around 26 students. The class would love to have some more of these. If you would like to donate one to the classroom, go on my Amazon wish list - Christie Ross - each wobble cushion is $16.79. Thank you!!!
Thursday Folders
Thursday folders are located in your student's 3 ring binder.
Mrs. Schell's Homeroom
Your child brings their 3-ring binder home daily. The binder holds their planner - please ask them about their day's lessons. The binder will also hold any homework they need to complete.
Please encourage your student to read at least 20 minutes each evening.
