"You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice."

On this Solemnity of Christ the King, we are surrounded by reminders that this world passes and that God, our true King, is always just, is always true, and will not change with the passing tastes of the passing crowd. The crowd leads to approval, belonging, ease — but if we’ve learned anything this year, it’s that all those things are temporary. The Truth leads to the Cross, of course, but the Cross is the established path to eternal life.

So which will we chose?

Jesus, my King, help me to be loyal to You, for I know You are eternal, You are Truth, and You will never pass away from me.

SLE Focus for the Month: ACTIVELY ENGAGED Catholic Christian Learners

OLM Students are Actively Engaged Catholic Christian Learners who . . . .

* Learn and grow in the teaching of Christ

* Participate in the sacramental life of the Church

* Learn to work independently and collaboratively

Morning Prayers

We will be reciting the Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary led this week with Ms. Simpson's homeroom, 3B. We will also continue to lift up in prayer Pope Francis' November intention peace and love in our conversations with each other. The following week Mrs. Collins' homeroom 2A will lead the Luminous Mysteries.

Please do ask your students to have a rosary everyday for the outdoor assembly each morning. We are happy to provide you rosaries if you need some.

Offering for the Fire Victims

For the 9:00 a.m. mass next Wednesday, December 5th, we will have a special collection for the victims of the recent Butte County fires. Special donation envelopes will be given out to families next week for the said purpose. Your kindness and generosity will be most appreciated. Thank you.

Season of Advent at OLM

The Liturgical Year begins with Advent this Sunday, the first week of Advent with the Blessing of the Advent Wreath at all the Sunday Masses. It is the time of year we all prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ. There are four Sundays in Advent and the Advent Wreath has four candles that represent each week with the three purple candles and one pink candle. The students at OLM will experience the lighting of the Advent Wreath each day in Advent during the morning assembly until school dismisses for the Christmas break on Friday, December 21nd. You and your family can be very enriched this Advent Season by making your own Advent Wreath for in your home. Light it each evening with family and friends and conclude it with the traditional song of "O Come O Come, Emmanuel".

Congratulations to our School Choir for their excellent performance in yesterday's Principals' Advent Gathering. Under the direction of Mr. Fisico, the choir sang beautiful Christmas carols that brought cheers to the principals of the Archdiocese! Great job!

The Season of Advent, Sunday December 2nd School Liturgy by the Sixth Grade Class of 2021

We are once again having a school-sponsored OLM Mass at 10:30 a.m. This First Sunday of Advent, December 2nd will be sponsored by the sixth grade class. Students from Mr. Abellana's homeroom will be in-charge of the readings, altar serving, offertory, and the cantering. We would like all our families to join us in this parish / school celebration.

Recognizing that a good number of our families are members of other parishes, we ask for our school community to attend the 10:30 a.m. Mass every first Sunday of the month during the school year at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Please extend the invitation to families, friends, and OLM alumni. This is our opportunity to come together as a school community at the Our Lady of Mercy Parish.

After the Mass, we invite you to join us for a brief fellowship / gathering sponsored by our Sixth grade families at the School Hall. We hope that you are able to come this Sunday and every first Sunday of the school year. Thank you very much!

St. Nicholas Day, Thursday, December 6th

OLM has a long tradition of celebrating the Feast of St. Nicholas by delivering home baked cookies to each boy and girl who put out their shoes outside their classrooms on December 6th.

The teachers help the kids learn about Father Christmas, St. Nicholas, a man of faith who lived his life in devotion of Jesus. It is a special festivity early in the waiting weeks of Advent that teaches more about the gift of giving and inspires compassion and charity and how the tradition of the true Santa Claus came about. So remind your children to wear clean socks that day as they do spend sometime in the classroom with no shoes on. Happy St. Nicholas Day one and all!

Please do come and support our homegrown artists in the Drama Club's production of Beauty and the Beast. Directed by Deidre D'Cuna, the show promises to be a showcase of the great talents that we have at OLM.

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please do contact the office as soon as possible. Thanks!

Christmas Play Tickets

Our Christmas Play is happening in no time at all! The show, "Christmas Express," features our talented students, K - 8, as they sing, dance, and share an important message to all of us in the season of Advent. Directed by Mrs. D'Cunha and Ms. Cynthia, it happens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14th, at the OLM Church.

In our effort to provide all parents/guardians a fair chance at having seats for the performance, we will once again follow the admission/ticketing procedures as we had the previous couple of years. Please take note of the following:

All families will be assured of two tickets (reserved seats) upon request. Other family members may line up for extra tickets the night of the show.

From 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5th till 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7th, parents need to send an email to tickets@olmbulldogs.com , indicating the name of your oldest child enrolled at OLM this year and his / her room number on the subject line. The following is an example:

To: tickets@olmbulldogs.com

Subject: Krista Mananquil (8B)

Please do not write anything in the body of the email.

Requests received before 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5th, or after 8:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7th, will not be honored.

We only need ONE request email per family. Duplicate requests - more than one request email from a family - will be moved at the end of the request list.

Please note that tickets will be assigned to parents in the order the emails are received.

For those families who may not have email access, the school will open our phone lines for ticket requests from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. ONLY on Wednesday, December 5th. A call made after an email is sent will be considered a DUPLICATE request.

Tickets will be given to the oldest children before dismissal on Thursday, December 13th. If you need to make alternative arrangements for ticket pick-up, please do let the office know no later than 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 10th.

On the night of the performance, please make sure that you keep your tickets. Our ushers will be checking to make sure that everyone is seated on the assigned pews.

Please note that EACH FAMILY WILL ONLY GET TWO RESERVED TICKETS. For those who miss the ticket request window and for other family members wanting to watch the show, there will be extra tickets available at the door starting at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th.

Thank you for your cooperation.
