A Note from the Safe Environment Office

We look with hope to the next school year and want to be prepared for the day when volunteers will be welcomed into the school. As you know, several years ago the Diocese of Allentown began requiring clearances for all volunteers ages 18 and older. Several of these clearances are only valid for 5 years. These include the Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprints, and Mandated Reporter Certification.

Many volunteers from St. Catharine’s School/Parish have clearances that have already expired or will expire soon. I encourage you to be proactive in renewing your clearances so you are prepared for the day when our school/parish events are fully open.

Please contact Marci Zambito at if you are unsure of the status of your clearances or are in need of a payment code for FBI fingerprints. Directives for all clearances can be found at under the Safe Environment tab.

Thank you!

Saint Catharine of Siena COVID Protocols, updated 2/4/22

On February 8, 2022, all Diocesan schools will transition to a mask-recommended policy for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in our schools.

Other COVID-19 mitigation measures will remain in place, such as social distancing, enhanced cleaning, disinfecting, handwashing, isolation, quarantine protocols when needed, and contact tracing.

Diocesan schools will continue to follow our Health and Safety Plans regarding Isolation and Quarantine. In addition, these protocols align with the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) direction.

While masks will be recommended in our schools beginning February 8, we ask our community to be mindful and respectful of others during this transitional phase.

It is essential to keep in mind that there are several situations where individuals will still be mandated to wear a mask in school:

Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 may return after five days of isolation, given that they are fever-free for 24 hours and their other symptoms are improving. Individuals must wear a mask for Days 6-10 upon their return.

Also, for individuals exposed to COVID-19 and in a category that would need to be quarantined, the quarantine period is now five (5) days and may return on Day 6 if there are no symptoms. Individuals returning from quarantine also must wear a mask for Days 6-10 upon their return.

While individuals identified as close contact and fully vaccinated/boosted -OR had a lab-confirmed COVID-19 case in the last 90 days do not have to quarantine; they must wear a mask at school through Day 10.

Saint Catharine of Siena will alert the school community of a positive case and will also alert the classroom of exposure. We ask parents to watch for any symptoms of illness (not just COVID) and keep students home if they present symptoms of ANY illness. Our goal is to keep students healthy and in school.

Public (district) transportation still requires that all students wear a mask as part of a federal mandate.

The Diocese cannot control the decisions of other governmental agencies, including decisions made by the local Intermediate Units. Masks may be required by specific Intermediate Units when receiving support services.

Please prepare your child for this change in the masking policy and ensure that your child understands your expectations. Also, as we move to an optional mask policy, please respect the decision of others on this issue. Our schools will be monitoring the wearing of masks when mandated but will not enforce students wearing masks per parental request.

Box Tops for Education

No more clipping. No more sending Box Tops to school. All you need is your phone. Download the ALL-NEW Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then simply scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit your school's Box Tops earnings online.

You can still clip them and send them to school. Physical Box Top clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. Send your clipped Box Tops, along with any unexpired clips you may have at home, to SCS.

Twice a year, your school will receive a check and can use that cash to buy whatever it needs!
