Curbside Coffee with the Ventura Police Department - The Ventura Police Department will be hosting a community outreach event at DATA on Thursday morning, November 19th from 8:15-9:15 am. Students, parents, teachers, and staff will be able to meet our local VPD officers and get an up close look at their patrol cars and other vehicles. Come join the fun!
Cheers for Children - Beginning November 30th, DATA is collecting dried foods (such as rice, pastas, instant mashed potatoes and dried beans). Students who bring in 10 items to Ms. “K” will receive a mile pass.
Gift and Plant Sale - The Garden Club and DATA Library need donations of succulent clippings and small containers (such as coffee/tea cups, jars, cans, and flowerpots) to sell on December 3 & 4, in front of the library. Sales will benefit the garden and fund library prizes. Parent and student volunteers are also needed. Yearbook – Yearbooks on sale now for $35 from now until February 1st. Layaway program starts at $5.
DATA Gear – Our DATA sweatshirt inventory is fully stocked! Now carrying Youth Large in addition to Adult Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. Sweatshirts available in royal blue or black, zippered or pullover style. Sweatshirts can be purchased in the office.

SPORTS
Girls' Basketball - The DATA Girls Basketball team will continue tryouts Tuesday and Thursday of this week, 3:30-5:00 in the gym. These tryouts are mandatory for all players. Come dressed to play. If you have questions see Ms. Vega or Mr. Gennaro.
DATA Girls' Volleyball - We have 3 DeAnza Volleyball teams that are headed to playoffs this week. Please check the "Events" calendar above for details. Also, there will be a mandatory volleyball meeting on Thursday, November 19th. All Volleyball girls need to grab their lunch and meet with Mr. Ornelas in gym.
Cross Country - Please turn in your clean uniforms to Ms. Jones ASAP.
Intramural Flag Football - Flag Football continues at lunch this week with Wed. & Thurs. games. Please check the schedule on the girls' PE office window. We will not play next week due to Thanksgiving Holiday but will resume with playoffs the following week.

Battle of the Books Logo Contest – Are you artistic? Do you like to draw? Then we'd love to have your design entered in the Battle of the Books annual logo contest. The winning logo will earn $25 for its designer. Stop by the library for rules and instructions. Entries are due in the library Wednesday, December 2.
Accelerated Reader Awards - Congratulations to our Stellar Readers for first quarter!! They received a special visit from Darth Vader last week during lunch.
· 300,000 words: Emmie Johnston, Cheyenne Holloway, Mason Woertink, Jaclyn Brodersen, Brianna Porrazzo, Andre Sargissian, Rebekah Weldele, and Mariah Sever.
· 400,000 words: Shane Rodriguez, Fox Bonner, Bronwyn Thompson, Torsten Yahr, Hannah Yale, Samantha Prehn, and Molly Sturgeon.
· 1,000,000 words: Nikolai Haines with 1,202,870 words and Thomas Weldele with 1,481,186.
Accelerated Reader Party - As a school, DATA students read 25,971,569 words first quarter. If you top that for 2nd quarter and hit 30,000,000 words, any student who reads a book and passes an AR quiz with 85% or better will be eligible for our 3rd quarter party. You're already off to a good start with almost 5,000,000 words in 2 weeks. Keep on reading!! Maybe you'll get a visit from Mr. Vader next quarter.
6th graders - Earn a FREE ticket to Six Flags Magic Mountain by reading 6 hours and completing a reading log. Stop by the library for details.
Tech Ticket Drawing Winners – Did you know that you can get tech tickets for coming into the library to clean your netbook? You can also earn tickets by showing responsible behavior with your computer. Winners can pick up prizes in the library before & after school or during lunch.

Scholastic Book Orders – The last book order before winter break will be placed on Friday, November 20 at 2:00 to be sure orders come before school is out. We have lots of catalogs in here, so stop by if you want to get books before the holidays.
