Digital Media Center Update

January 2016

Happy New Year!

Welcome back! Here's hoping you had a relaxing winter break. Let's get through the winter doldrums together with great multimedia tools for you and your students. Read on for exciting changes to one of our platforms!

Happy New Year!

  • We honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his contributions to the civil rights movement in our country on January 18. Ensure that students know it's more than just another day off from school. World Book Kids has a great article about Dr. King. Don't forget to use the "Tools" menu at top right to access the "read aloud" feature - great for younger students or those with reading challenges! Or try a search on Learn360 to find videos of any length to show your students the details of Dr. King's life and work.

  • Upper-grades students can search Proquest for biographical information on Mozart (born January 27, 1756), facts about the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster (January 28), and other timely January topics.

Feature of the Month

Learn360 Launches Updated Site

Learn360 has launched their new interface, featuring a better search engine, redesigned appearance, and faster loading. Check it out and find some great resources for your class! A good place to start is the Calendar feature, available from the three lines menu at top left when you're logged in. It features timely topics, events, and birthdays of significant people, with links to related videos.

Your login should work the same as previously. If you have any trouble logging in, please send me an email.

Training Available

I'm available to train staff in Digital Media Center subscriber districts on the use of these great tools and how to integrate them in your classroom. If your district hasn't set up a training yet, please contact me to find out more.
