Why Thomas Jefferson was important
Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the United States. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13,1739. He was also in the Declaration of Independence! Jefferson grew to be 90 years old and died in 1826 on July 4th. Something I am going to tell you about his legacy and his falls in his legacy basically meaning his positives and negatives, lets start with his positives and work up to negatives ! #1 Thomas Jefferson was the President for 8 years. #2 He was a founding father and the author of the Declaration of the Independence. Finally #3 "Jefferson was very kind to his slaves he freed two of his enslaved men and, in his death he freed 5 more in his will" -https://www.monticello.org/site/plantation-and-slavery/property. Now for Thomas Jefferson's negatives. #1 Thomas Jefferson was thought to be a hypocrite, For quoting "that all men are created equal, and enslaved nearly 200 human beings"- a politician named Michael Coard. #2 Jefferson is said to have raped one of his slave's named Sally Hemming who was 14 years old. "Jefferson had supposedly forced himself onto Sally hemming in Paris and impregnated her" - a politician Michael Coard. Finally#3 Thomas Jefferson was a liar,
"His friend from the American Revolution, Polish nobleman Tadeusz Kosciuszko, came to America in 1798 to receive back pay for his military service. He then wrote a will directing Jefferson to use all of Kosciuszko’s money and land in the U.S. to “free and educate slaves.” Jefferson agreed to do so. After Kosciuszko died in 1817, Jefferson refused to free or educate any of them."politician Michael Coard. In conclusion, these are just a few of what Jefferson did in his lifetime.
