Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 9 | 15 SEPTEMBER 2021
Lord Jesus
Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time.
May this day be an initial step into a life-long love of the Eucharist.
Give them the hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.
May their hands extend in anticipation of your body and blood,
and inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament.
Amen
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
First Holy Communion
Over two days this weekend, some of our Year 4 students will be receiving the Holy Eucharist for the very first time. This is a significant milestone in their spiritual journey and we congratulate these students. We pray that our students feel the presence of Jesus with them as they receive their First Holy Communion and we pray too that they continue to receive Holy Communion regularly to grow in their relationship with Jesus. I would like to thank our Year 4 teachers, Miss Alison Ryan and Miss Katia Pirozzi for preparing the children so well.
Mercy Day
Next Wednesday, we celebrate Mercy Day – the feast day of the Sisters of Mercy across the world. As a Mercy school, we seek to follow Jesus by knowing God’s loving kindness and sharing it with others. We seek to live by the model (or charism) given to us through the founder of the Mercy Sisters, Catherine McAuley, undertaking faith-filled courageous service of others.
We will commence Mercy Day with a whole school Paraliturgy in the undercover area and we welcome our families to this celebration. Throughout the day, we will raise funds for Father Sam’s Catholic charities through class stalls and will finish the celebrations with ‘OLOM’s Got Talent’ talent show.
P&F
On behalf of the staff, I would like to thank our wonderful P&F for the morning tea they provided staff to support us through the loss of our colleague and friend, Mrs Alison John-Lewis. This thoughtful gesture touched our hearts. I would also like to thank the P&F for providing a free sausage sizzle lunch for every child at the Sports Carnival this Friday. A note has been sent home for parents to complete if you would like your child to have a sausage sizzle and if you are available to assist on the day, either by cooking sausages on the BBQ or serving food. Without the help and assistance of parents and carers at these events we are unable to provide refreshments for everyone to enjoy.
We know that many parents are unable to give their time by joining the P&F, however, a way you can assist is by volunteering your time, usually only for 30 minutes at the event that has been assigned to your class for the year. The Sports Carnival has been assigned to Year 1, so we are asking Year 1 parents and carers to please volunteer half an hour of your time on Friday to assist our P&F.
Athletics Carnival on Friday
We are so looking forward to one of the highlights on our calendar, our annual school Athletics Carnival on Friday. Ms Millen has worked hard to prepare our children well for this event and we appreciate her passion for developing children’s love of sport, physical activity and knowledge about healthy lifestyle choices.
God bless you all.
