Policy and Compliance Spotlight
From Human Capital Management
Who Are We?
Just think for a moment, how successful would any of our tasks be, whether you are an employee in School Leadership, Staffing, or any other District role, without policy supporting the mandates driving your work? Policies set the rules and expectations by which every District employee must abide and provide guidance for how to meet these expectations in both our professional conduct and our work product.
Human Capital Management’s Policy and Compliance department helps set those expectations through the development, review, and approval of employee policies, the District’s Employee Handbook, and compliance training.
Policy
Policy actions can originate from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, or the Administration. When policy changes occur within the D-Series (policies that begin with the letter “D”), or employee policies, we facilitate the review and approval process. All District policies are available online in the District’s board policy manual at http://pol.tasb.org/Home/Index/361.
Compliance
District educators serve our students every day. Conducting monthly audits of educator certifications, special permits, and background checks ensure that certified educators are in front of students in a safe and secure environment. We collaborate with and assist the Certification Department by communicating with educators regarding certification renewals within the window allowed by the state.
Training
Compliance training ensures all staff are prepared to work within the bounds of District policies and are knowledgeable of other relevant topics necessary to promote student success. All District employees are responsible for completing compliance training videos in Cornerstone each school year.

Final Thoughts...
"Compliance is an art developed through training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue and ethics, but rather, we have virtue and ethics because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Compliance, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
(Adaptation of Aristotle’s quote on “Excellence”)
