A weekly newsletter - January 15, 2021
Message from Dr. Emily Delgado, Associate Principal of PHS
I can’t believe we’re already in the middle of January! I hope you all were able to enjoy our “snow day” on Monday. Watching that snow fall for so long and in such quantity was really a remarkable sight in Pflugerville, Texas on Sunday. I saw many snowmen and loved seeing so many neighbors out and about taking a moment to just enjoy the day. As Dr. Killian has said, we are not yet sure when or if we will have to make that day up. As soon as I receive notification, I will share that information with you.
We have lots of things going on at PHS, beginning with course selection. Yesterday, counselors began meeting with students regarding their course selection for the 2021-2022 school year. The course selection process will continue through February. This year counselors are meeting with students virtually, via Zoom. As your child enters into this process, you can access our course guide here. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s counselor. They are all eager to support you and your child as you begin to plan for the next school year. Additionally, we are offering an in person PSAT make up testing opportunity on January 26th. This opportunity is available to any 11th grade student that was not able to participate in the PSAT at PHS in October. The deadline to register is Wednesday, January 20th. The form to register your child is here.
Monday, January 18th is a school holiday. Please enjoy your time with your family in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday, January 19th for “A” day classes.

English II/English II Pre-AP Announcements:
All English II students are currently reading John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. This unit will take us to Spring Break so we encourage students to check out a copy from our "PHS Library Curbside Pick-up" (https://sites.google.com/pfisd.net/pfhslibrary/curbside-pick-up). Teachers are providing a PDF link for the novella for students choosing to read digitally.
The week of January 19-22 will be asynchronous as English II will be participating in testing palooza, taking both the STAAR Interim Spring Opportunity as well as the STAR360 Middle of Year Assessment. Students should log into Canvas during their regular times for assessment info from their teachers.
Looking for an English challenge: Consider setting a weekly, monthly, or yearly reading goal for your family. Here are a few few examples:
REMINDER: For the ELA department, Zoom meetings are NOT optional and should be attended each class period unless otherwise communicated to the teacher. As we continue our hybrid model of teaching (some students virtual and some students in-person), students will have an asynchronous time in class and a synchronous time in class in the form of Zoom.
