Spanish With Mrs. Zaremba (& Mrs. Schenk)
"It's hard to believe that the warm colorful days of fall have already transitioned into the brisk cold of winter! As things begin to pick up speed for the holidays, all of our Spanish classes will be keeping pace with a lot of new language and cultural activities.
Fifth Graders have been very busy! Besides learning and practicing vocabulary words associated with the month of November, they also took an in depth look at the Latin American holiday of Day of the Dead. During the coming weeks, we will be learning our December vocabulary words and also learning about Las Posadas.
Fourth Graders have completed several lessons about Día de los Muertos. During the month of December, students will take a brief look at the Mexican holiday of Las Posadas, make traditional Ojos de Díos, and also learn about the history of the Poinsettia and its connection to Mexico.
Third Graders have completed their unit on the Magical Mariposa, and are currently practicing and solidifying their knowledge of the related Spanish vocabulary words. In the next few weeks, we will also be taking a look at the Mexican holiday of Las Posadas.
Second Graders are finishing their study of the season of fall and related weather terms in Spanish. When this is finished, we will be ready to discuss the holiday customs and traditions of Mexico and its Latin American neighbors.
First Graders have been introduced to the holiday of Day of the Dead, and have also done a unit on the Biblioburro that was an extension of their lessons in their reading classes. Next, we will be looking into The Legend of the Poinsettia and the history of Las Posadas.
Kindergarteners have been introduced to the colors red and blue, and the circle shape in Spanish. They will continue to learn additional colors, while incorporating some Spanish vocabulary for the season.
All of my students have been working very hard to learn not only the meanings of the words, but also the pronunciation of the new language. I am very proud of their progress thus far, and I thank you for the opportunity to work with all of your children, and for all of the time and support that you are giving to them at home!
Wishing all of you a blessed and happy holiday season!
