Emerson Weekly Update

Dear Emerson Families,

On September 24, 2022, House Bill 2707 went into effect, which amended A.R.S. § 15-506 to include a statewide moment of silence at the beginning of each school day in all K-12 public and charter schools. To comply with this new law, all students in Mesa Public Schools observe a one-minute moment of silence at the beginning of each school day in their classroom.

The new law prohibits a classroom teacher from suggesting to students the nature of any thoughts or reflection the students may engage in during the moment of silence. Instead, it encourages parents to speak to their child about how to properly use the moment of silence. We encourage you to discuss with your child how to best use this daily observance.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Reading Night. We had a great turnout, and it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying books and writing stories together!

This week our PTO meeting will be at 6:00 pm in the library. Please join us to find out how you can help with activities going on around the school this year.

I am looking forward to our Halloween Parade on October 31st at 9:30 am. As a reminder, costumes cannot have masks, weapons, or blood. After the parade, students will change back into their normal school clothes for the remainder of the day. Students are also not permitted to wear costumes or face paint during school except during the Halloween Parade.

Halloween Parties will be held from 2:00-2:30 pm. Please check with your child's teacher for more information.

Cookie Dough Pick up from our fundraiser will be on Tuesday, October 24 from 2-4. Please make arrangements to pick up your child's order from the cafeteria.

Boo! Grams are going to be available to purchase in the cafeteria before school on October 27th and 28th.

Emerson's Family Movie Night is coming up! November 7th, 6-8pm. Admission is free, and concessions will be available for purchase.

We are taking costume donations: if you have any costumes you’d like to donate, please send them to the front office. (These will be used for our Halloween parade!)

Every Wednesday is College and Career Spirit day at Emerson. We look forward to seeing students wearing their favorite College or Career Shirt!
