“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”
St. Catherine of Siena
From Mr. Merrick
Dear St. Jerome Families,
I hope that you are all having a pleasant week. Below as well as in the Wednesday Folders, there is more information about the St. Jerome Festival as well as our annual celebration of our school mascots with Lion Week. Please remember that discounted wristbands are also on sale. We are looking forward to a fantastic afternoon of family fun, but our Festival Committee along with our school staff are in need of additional volunteers to make this day happen. Please click here for the signup sheet.
Milk orders for the first trimester are due tomorrow. The form was sent home last week and is also linked below.
I am pleased to announce that the 7th & 8th graders are almost all back on the bus and should all be back on by next week (some students need new stops created because they removed the stops when they removed the 7th & 8th graders from the bus). We also received a large shipment of workbooks yesterday that were delivered to the classrooms. We have one more order that is still outstanding. Thank you for your advocacy and helping us to contact the government officials. Your children are entitled to these resources.
This week, our Title I and CORA support staff have either started working with students or are completing the necessary steps that the school district imposes in order for them to start. Through Title I (Catapult) and CORA, our K-8th students are able to receive math support, reading support, counseling services, learning assessments, and speech language students. Our teacher work to make referrals if they see a need in their classrooms, and the first step is to always contact you. If you notice your child having difficulties and in need of any of these services, please contact your child's teacher first. He or she will work with the Title I or CORA staff, supported by me, to get these services for your children.
PreK students who have difficulties may be eligible for early intervention services through Elwyn or another agency. Please contact your child's teacher.
We understand that all of our lives are hectic with activities and many obligations. In addition, our families have faced challenges with the pandemic over the past few years. However, we are all ready to help and, working together, we can provide the best for all of our students and help them to overcome any obstacles to ensure that they grow spiritually, academically, and socially this year. Please reach out to your child's teacher with any questions or concerns and to keep our partnership between home and school strong. Working together, we will be able to provide the very best for your children. We also have many resources provided to us, as I indicated above. We also have a Family Connections Counselor/Liaison through Title I who can help with obtaining services and resources for our students. We can all help you walk through these processes together.
I will put an update in the Sunday Reminders, but we anticipate changing the visitor's entrance as of this coming Monday, September 26th. Next week, all visitors will enter the building through the stained glass doors off of the parking lot (I will also include a picture). You will ring the doorbell, and the office staff will check the cameras and then buzz you directly into the school office.
Tomorrow, I have Sister Margaret Rose Adams, IHM, visiting from the Office of Catholic Education. She will be here to meet with me to help plan our principal meetings for the archdiocesan schools in the Philadelphia North region. This year, I will serve as chair of the Philadelphia North region and help facilitate our principal's meetings. We meet five times a year, and I am hoping to host one of these meetings here at St. Jerome. She is also going to take a tour to see the improvements that we were able to make over the summer.
Have a great week; St. Jerome and St. Lucy, pray for us!
