Message from the Principal

Westbrook Families,

Just prior to Spring Break we wrapped up our Read Across America event. Students participated in many spirited color days. Our Westbrook students were able to DOUBLE our school goal which results in a pie in the face for Megan Freeley, our LRC director and myself! All students were able to view the "pie in the face" on the Friday before break. A huge thank you to Megan Freeley and the PTA for sponsoring this event!

We are thrilled to be back after Spring Break! It was so nice to see our students excited to be with their peers and teachers after a week off! The true happiness to be back at school has energized the entire school community.

This week students were selected to add items to a time capsule that will be placed inside a wall in our new wing! The time capsule will be opened in 50 years! Students and one staff member placed photos, stories, and even a Panda inside to represent their time here at Westbrook. Please see below for our construction update as there was significant progress made over Spring Break.

We have just over eight weeks remaining in school and we are looking forward to some upcoming events. There is an in person PTA assembly on the horizon, a book fair, and our second grade students will be visiting Glen Grove in May. It has been wonderful to add back some of our school events that had been canceled in previous years due to COVID. Students and teachers continue to show respect for each others' family's choice with wearing a mask.

We are beginning to plan for next year. Please see the information below regarding class placement feedback.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Patrick

Class Placement Input

Later this spring, the Westbrook staff and I will engage in our work to create the groups of children that will comprise our 2022-23 homeroom classes. The class placement process is one that takes considerable time and collaboration among our school team, and will not be truly finalized until August.

In creating classes, we strive to take into account all that we have already learned regarding the social, emotional, academic and creative aspects of every child. Our goal is to form balanced, heterogeneous classes in which each child can succeed. If you have additional information that you feel is important for us to consider when placing your child in a class for next school year, please share it with me in writing (or email: phoeft@glenview34.org) no later than Friday, April 29th. If your child will not be returning to Westbrook for the 2022-2023 school year because your family is moving or he/she will be enrolling in a private school, please let the front office know as soon as possible via email to mzenzola@glenview34.org and pschurr@glenview34.org.

Your thoughts about your child’s peer relationships and previous school experiences are certainly valued. Consistent with past practice at Westbrook School, however, please know that we are unable to honor requests for specific teachers. If you have any questions about the class placement process, please feel free to reach out!

Lost & Found

Our Lost and Found is overflowing! PLEASE ask your child to check in the hallway by the front office for any sweaters, jackets, gloves, hats, water bottles, etc. that may have come to school but didn't make it home. All items that have NOT been claimed will be donated after April 15th. Parents are welcome to stop by before/after school.

Construction Update

Construction continues to move along here at Westbrook. Extensive work was completed over Spring Break including some asbestos removal in the tunnels below Westbrook and additional sewer lines added near our administration building. Below are the most updated photos. The flooring is now going in and rooms are coming together!
