St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 2 | 7 MAY 2020
Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you watch over your Church. Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers and nurturers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, honour them always with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Message from the Principal
Our second week of Term 2 is almost gone and our students and staff have worked well together with the remote learning. We have had well over half of our students attend school this week and the number is still climbing. A number of classes are almost at the point of having enough students attend for the teachers to teach face to face. When this happens the classroom teachers will still maintain remote learning for those who are still learning from home. This may change, if the Catholic Education Office WA make a decision to have all Catholic schools change from remote learning to face to face learning in the next week or two.
I would once again like to thank all of the families for your help and support with how the school is operating at the present time. With the school and families working so well together the learning for the students has been very positive and remote learning has been an illuminating experience for many families.
In order to further alleviate some of the traffic congestion but still maintain social distancing for adults, from tomorrow families of Years 3 to 6 students who do not have siblings in lower grades have the option of parking in front of the school and waiting in their vehicle at drop off and pick up time. Students will leave cars and walk through the admin office to walk to class. In the afternoons, students will meet a staff member outside the music room and they will be escorted through the school admin area to the staff car park where they will disperse to waiting cars.
Parents who walk to school to collect students will continue to wait in the staff car park at the front of the Admin building, where they will collect their child. Please advise classroom teachers if your child is walking or cycling. A staff member will be on duty at this time in the staff car park.
I would like to take the opportunity to wish all Mothers a very happy Mothers' Day for this Sunday.
God Bless
Allen McMahon

May, the Month of Our Lady
Mothers' Day
We would like to wish all mothers in our community a lovely Mothers' Day.
Did you know that Mother’s Day is celebrated in Australia thanks to Mrs Janet Heyden, who helped pioneer it after she started a campaign in Sydney to raise money to buy gifts for lonely or forgotten mothers? The original meaning of Mothers' Day was to acknowledge and support disadvantaged mothers with no current family to support them. Today, through Mrs Heyden’s efforts, Australia now celebrates Mothers' Day on the second Sunday of every May. Her actions have gone on to shape Fathers' Day in Australia too.
