@ Your Arcadia Elementary Library
Meet Your Librarian....
Greetings from your librarian at Arcadia Elementary School. My name is Ms. Little and I have been teaching and a librarian for 25 years. I love to read for pleasure and it is my joy to encourage all of my students to develop a love of reading!! Every month I will send out a newsletter highlighting all the wonderful events and services offered by the Arcadia Elementary Library. I will also share updates about technology, new apps, library events, and much more!
Welcome to Camp Read-a-Lot!!
Phased Re-Opening of the Arcadia Library
As we begin to re-open the Arcadia Elementary Library, we will follow the guidelines set out in the TCS district policy to ensure that safety is our number one priority. While we are in Phase I of the plan, students will begin having library lessons and information in their Schoology Library course beginning the week of September 14-18, 2020. At this time, students are encouraged to utilize the digital resources (ebooks) on Sora and myON. Watch a tutorial (below) on how to access these resources and use them. The Arcadia Elementary Library will serve all students throughout this school year. As we progress into a staggered schedule, students will have the opportunity to request books using our Destiny library automation system. Watch for more information/tutorials in Schoology for students to learn how to search Destiny and put holds on books, etc. Also, in the near future, we will begin offering curb-side pick up of books to our virtual students on meal distribution day (Mondays). All books that are circulated must be placed in quarantine for at least 72 hours. There is a recycling bin in the main lobby of the school for return of books from the Spring. As always, thank you for your patience and flexibility during this time.
What is OverDrive/Sora?
OverDrive is a digital library offering both ebooks and audiobooks for the TCS District accessible anytime, anywhere! Sora is the new user-friendly app that lets you access it through your laptop, phone or tablet. The Sora app was designed around the modern student reading experience. It empowers students to discover and enjoy ebooks and audiobooks from their school, for both leisure and class-assigned reading.
A special thank you to Mrs. McCreless, librarian at Southview, for sharing this wonderful tutorial on how to use Sora. See below.
New Books are Arriving!!
Arcadia Elementary Library has purchased close to 500 new books since the Spring of 2020. About half of them are already on the shelf and ready for circulation to resume (in phases)during our re-opening.
Need to return library books from the Spring?
Please continue to return library books that were checked out in the Spring by placing them in the recycling bin in the main lobby of the school.
As part of our camping theme, woodland forest animals await the return of our students. We are looking forward to the day when students can pick a buddy to read to.
