Tilghman Tiger Talk
September 24, 2021 Principal Update
2021-2022 School Year
Dear Tilghman Families,
INTERIM & CONFERENCES:
Thursday, September 23rd was the end of the first quarter interim. Interims will be sent out Wednesday, September 29th. October 1st (this coming Friday) will be an early dismissal (12:05) with afternoon parent/teacher conferences. Your child's teacher will reach out to schedule a conference if there is a need or feel free to request a conference by simply emailing the teacher or calling the TES office. Working together, we are better able to support your child and to help facilitate even greater academic and social growth.
MCAP:
We will continue our Fall administration of MCAP this coming week for our 4th grade students on Tuesday (28th), Wednesday (29th), and Thursday(30th). Testing will begin at 9:00. Please do your best to be on time. Students will be best supported if they go to bed early in order to be rested and ready. If students are not sick, it is essential that they come to school.
Donations:
Thank you for sending in bottles of water and masks. Your donations are greatly appreciated!!!!
Car Rider Reminders:
It is essential that cars do not pass the car in front of them when in the car rider lines. We recognize that many are in a rush but please adhere to our safety rules. Parents, please do your best to have your student ready to get out of the vehicle on the right side with his/her mask, water bottle and book bag. Staff will help open doors so that parents can remain in the vehicle. This will help our line move quickly and efficiently. Thank you for your assistance.
Safety & Covid:
We continue to follow all CDC, Talbot County Health Department and TCPS health protocol, procedures and precautions. Students are expected to wash hands, use hand sanitizer, and wear masks. Masks should fit securely over the nose. We are adhering to 3 feet distancing as much as possible. Please note that if your student has a pending COVID test, he/she may not return to school until the results are in and they are negative.
Our Tilghman families have been taking precautions and have been keeping students home when they are sick. We appreciate your willingness to take your child/children to the doctor and to get tested when necessary. These decisions help us all stay safe and healthy. Please continue to send a parent or doctor's note for an absence. Thank you!
If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

FARMS:
Please note that your previous FARMS application expires on 10/13/21. Although all students will receive free meals this school year, thanks to a grant TCPS received for this purpose, we would like to request that all families still complete the annual FARMS application. This application will help secure additional benefits for our students and our school, throughout this school year and into the start of the next school year. These applications help us receive funding for student meals, provide materials of instruction, and fund positions within the building. If you haven't sent in your completed form, please do so asap. A link is provided for your convenience. Submit your FARMS application and you will be entered to win a $75 or $150 grocery store card. Thanks so much for your assistance!
TES PBIS PAWS
PBIS & TES PAWS:
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. It seeks to reduce or eliminate poor behavior school wide through the encouragement of positive behaviors. PBIS decreases office discipline referrals, increases instructional time, and improves student achievement.
The PBIS committee has introduced the following PAWS for our TES students, staff, and community.
P=Practice Kindness
A=Accept Responsibility
W=Work Hard
S=Support Others
Be On Time and At School
Dismissal is at 3:20 PM. We will start dismissing the car riders utilizing both loops followed by the bus students.
Attendance:
Now that all schools are returning to full time in person learning, all aspects of the TCPS attendance policy and administrative regulations (10.2 & 10.2 AR) are in effect for all students for the 2021-2022 school year. Accordingly, please review and contact your child's school counselor should you have questions.
Please note that vacations count as unexcused absences and also count against our school attendance. With the increase of COVID cases in Talbot County and the potential for students to be out or to quarantine, please do your best to schedule vacations during the summer months or when school is not in session.
FALL MCAP TESTING
THIS WEEK: 4th Grade Students will test Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Current Grade 4 students:
3rd Grade ELA= September 28th and 29th
3rd Grade Math= September 30th
As part of continued COVID-19 recovery efforts, the Maryland State Department of Education is conducting the Early Fall Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) for students currently enrolled in grades 4-5. The results of these assessments will help educators better understand student needs as we move forward in the 2021-2022 school year.
Students will take two assessments, one in English Language Arts (ELA) and one in Mathematics. Both assessments are abbreviated versions of the MCAP assessments that are typically administered each spring. The Mathematics assessment consists of two 30 minute sections, while the ELA assessment is two 70 minute sections. The purpose of the Early Fall Test Administration is to assess students on standards and skills from their previous grade level. Therefore, students currently in grade 5 will complete the grade 4 ELA and Mathematics MCAP assessments and students in grade 4 will complete the grade 3 ELA and Mathematics MCAP assessments this fall.
Please see the flyer from the Maryland State Department of Education that includes more information on MCAP below.
ALL TCPS STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR THE ENTIRE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR!
