Principal Paul
Dear Switlik Families,
The Monroe County School Board and Executive Planning Team needs your help in developing the Strategic Plan for the next three years. All parents, staff, and community members are invited to attend a Town Hall on Wednesday, February 9, at 5:30 PM at the MHS Performing Arts Center. In addition, all parents are encouraged to complete a survey to provide feedback on the following four goal areas:
1. Student Success
2. The Whole Child
3. Human Capital Advantage
4. Safety/Security
Visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/G8YZFFY to complete the survey. Information gathered as a result of the survey and the Town Hall meeting will help direct funding and resources to improve our schools. Your participation, insight, and guidance is welcomed and appreciated. Let’s work together to make our schools the best they can be!
This week is Celebrate Literacy Week. This year’s theme is Launch Into Literacy, Blast Off Into New Worlds! Please see the daily activities and dress up themes in this newsletter. I encourage all students to take the reader’s oath and make time to read every day. All students and families are invited to attend Parent to Kid “PTK” Night this Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 for a pizza dinner and some fun literacy activities. Hope you can make it!
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Paul

This month's focus is PERSERVERANCE
Matilda Month!
We are nearing the end of Matilda month in music class! Matilda is based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl, and is still being performed in theaters around the globe. With the music room set up as a theater, students have been engrossed in watching an excellent high school live production of the show, as well as having detailed discussions on character development, careers in the music and theatre industry, theater terminology, and proper audience etiquette.
The Switlik Singers and drama club had the opportunity to see their fellow 4th grade classmate, Sutton Sayer (and 8 other youth from Monroe County) perform live at the Waterfront Theater in Key West.
We hope they that this experience as a whole will spark their creative interests on and off the stage for years to come! Hopefully they all remember "Even if you're little you can do a lot!"
