Information about Community Service for high school students during COVID

From the Office of Curriculum and Instruction:

"As a result of these unprecedented times, the District has suspended the 30 hours of community service as part of this graduation requirement for the class of 2021 (current senior class). For the graduating class of 2022 (current juniors), the 30 hours of community service will also be suspended. For the classes of 2023 and 2024, this graduation requirement will require a minimum of 15 hours. These required hours will be re-evaluated as needed once school sites are fully reopened."

Be the face and/or the voice of SUHSD STEAM!

SUHSD STEAM is inviting high school students (9th-12th) to volunteer as video or podcasts hosts. You will have the freedom to select the topic, theme, program, opportunity, or idea for the STEAM marketing efforts.


Your participation will be virtual! However, you will be able to tally hours of community service that can help you pursue your after high school plans.

NMSI Student Support [AP STEM Courses at SUHSD NMSI high schools]

This school year the National Math Science Initiative (NMSI) program supported by the Department of Defense (DoD) is back with a 4th year of Transition out of our NMSI College Readiness Program (CRP) 3-year grant that ended last school year.
SUHSD NMSI partner high schools with AP STEM student supports: Bonita Vista High School, Chula Vista High School, Eastlake High School, Hilltop High School, Mar Vista High School, Montgomery High School, Olympian High School, Otay Ranch High School, Southwest High School, and Sweetwater High School.


AP STEM Courses Supported: AP English Language, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C:Mechanics, and AP Environmental Science.

LIVE NMSI Student Study Sessions Start Late January

NMSI’s student supports offer 12 LIVE sessions of STEM Advanced Placement, topic-specific learning and review delivered by a NMSI coach. Each session is also supported by asynchronous materials that students can access on their own schedule.

This program allows students to engage with high quality materials both on their own time and with a NMSI content coach.

"Early Start" High School Internship

Are you interested in Computer Science?

CS foreach is partnering with Triton Software Engineering (TSE for short) to offer "Early Start". Early Start is a program that offers high school students internship roles in organization-led projects at UCSD, allowing students to interact closely with collegiate projects and mentors.
