It's been a long year since our last Festival, but we're proud to say that we're back for 2021! It's going to look a bit different since we won't be in person like we normally are, but that's not going to stop us from creating special #STEAM moments and memories for the whole family.

TritonHacks is a hackathon for high school students from underserved communities in San Diego, organized by a group of students at UCSD. We hope to create more opportunities for students from schools that lack access to resources in computer science and engineering.

If you would like to learn more about our motivations we have also written a Medium article here. The hackathon will be held online on the 15th-16th of May 2021. Participants will be able to explore different areas of computer science, including data science, app development, design, and web development, through workshops and projects.

UC San Diego Science Program Unites Students on Both Sides of Border

High School Students Opportunity

The ENLACE summer research program at UC San Diego aims to encourage the participation of students and researchers in the sciences and engineering, while promoting cross-border friendships. The program is an opportunity to explore a variety of interests through work on varied projects, while challenging the person to always consider science in the context of societal needs. The announcement of the program can be found here.


This year’s program will be virtual and with no cost for participation. Application deadline is April 23, 2021. Details and application information HERE.

🌻 Summer STEAM Opportunity 🌼

The Salk Institute is proud to present the Heithoff-Brody High School Summers Scholars program this summer. The program is offered as part of a partnership with the Biocom Institute Life Science Young Leaders High School Internship program. The eight-week paid internship is an opportunity for high school students to gain real-life experience performing scientific research while developing skill sets needed for a STEM careers.



The program is scheduled to take place from June 21st to August 13th. The program is a hybrid program, students will be expected to dedicate 25 – 30 hours per week to the program. Students will spend approximately 5 to 10 hours working in a Salk lab with their assigned mentor. Deadline to APPLY April 7th

The San Diego State University (SDSU) Women in Engineering (WE) are proud to announce a new summer program for black students to gain engineering skills. WE BELIEVE : WomEn and Black Empowered Learners Interning in Engineering EnVironmEnts is a four-week internship for 20 high school and community college students selected from around San Diego County.

This project started with the goal of providing students worldwide with the chance to listen to the experiences of Mustang alumni. They have chosen different pathways in life, accumulating various experiences and lessons they can share. Most importantly, they are able to guide us with advice as they are further along the paths we wish to pursue. In doing so, students around the world are able to learn the different career paths that branch from a passion for robotics as well as gain more insight on their potential pathways.

NMSI Student Support [AP STEM Courses at SUHSD NMSI high schools]

This school year the National Math Science Initiative (NMSI) program supported by the Department of Defense (DoD) is back with a 4th year of Transition out of our NMSI College Readiness Program (CRP) 3-year grant that ended last school year.
SUHSD NMSI partner high schools with AP STEM student supports: Bonita Vista High School, Chula Vista High School, Eastlake High School, Hilltop High School, Mar Vista High School, Montgomery High School, Olympian High School, Otay Ranch High School, Southwest High School, and Sweetwater High School.


AP STEM Courses Supported: AP English Language, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C:Mechanics, and AP Environmental Science.

LIVE NMSI Student Study Sessions Start Late January

NMSI’s student supports offer 12 LIVE sessions of STEM Advanced Placement, topic-specific learning and review delivered by a NMSI coach. Each session is also supported by asynchronous materials that students can access on their own schedule.

This program allows students to engage with high quality materials both on their own time and with a NMSI content coach.

As a result, we shifted our focus into evaluating the impact of 5G NR on commercially-available UWB indoor positioning systems through meticulous testing. Ultimately, both studies culminated into successful paper submissions for AIAA and IEEE conferences, the latter being the 2019 Indoor Positioning and Indoor Navigation Conference in Pisa, Italy (See Video Here).
