Scholarship Opportunities for Students

HCC/AMN Healthcare Scholarship

Through Health Care Communicators (HCC) of San Diego, high school seniors in San Diego County who plan to enter the health care field after college can apply to win a $2,000 scholarship courtesy of AMN Healthcare. The application deadline is June 30. Visit the HCC website for more information.

BBB Ethical Torch Essay Scholarship

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) will award five scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 to incoming high school students who submit an essay about the importance of ethics and integrity. Congressional App Challenge

The Congressional App Challenge is the most prestigious prize in student computer science.

Ready, Set, CODE! REGISTER IN 2019! #HOUSEOFCODE

student sign-in will open on June 5th, 2019.


To be eligible to participate in the Congressional App Challenge, you must be a middle or high school student at the time of app submission. Students may register as individuals or as teams of up to four.

Prizes:

  1. Winning apps are eligible to be displayed in the US Capitol Building and featured on the House of Representatives’ website, House.gov

  2. Winning students are invited to #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C.

  3. $250 per winner in Amazon Web Services credits!

The Experiment Digital

Big picture

The Experiment Digital is a free, virtual exchange program from the U.S. Department of State that allows students from the United States to connect with peers from different countries. The program runs for eight weeks, from June 24 to Aug.18. The exchanges take place online, so students can participate from anywhere.


By participating in The Experiment Digital, students receive a certificate of completion in leadership and global issues analysis, access to the Department of State’s International Exchange Alumni network, unique project funding opportunities from the Department of State, and a $400 scholarship towards participation in one of The Experiment’s programs around the world.

Summer Y.E.S. Academy by Southwestern College

Youth Excellence & Success Academy (Y.E.S.)

Y.E.S. (Youth Excellence and Success) Academy provides summer options to families to enroll their student(s) into Sally Ride Science Junior Academy STEAM courses and/or CFK Classic courses. All courses take place on the Southwestern College Chula Vista campus (900 Otay Lakes Road, Chula Vista, CA 91910) and provides students with a new and unique experience into a college atmosphere.


STEAM courses offer four 1-week sessions that run Monday-Thursday, in the mornings. Registration is accepted until the Wednesday before each course begins.

Week 1: June 10-13, 2019 / 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Week 2: June 17-20, 2019 / 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Week 3: July 1-3, 2019 (no program July 4) / 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Week 4: July 8-11, 2019 / 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Sally Ride Science STEAM course students need to be entering 4th-10th grade, with no additional eligibility requirements.

What is the GenCyber Program?

The GenCyber Academy of Excellence is a week-long program focused on technical aspects of cybersecurity including core concepts guided by Cyber First Principles offered at University of San Diego (USD).


No Cost To Participate

In order to stimulate learning and encourage future professionals to the cyber industry, the National Security Agency (NSA) has awarded funding to the University of San Diego to provide this program, materials and meals at no cost for admitted students.

Basic Requirements

  • Minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.25
  • Currently enrolled in 11th or 12th grade
  • Minimum age 16
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for most positions
  • Must reside within 50 miles of a Northrop Grumman location
  • Resume required


Details:

  • Internship duration: June - August 2019 (8 weeks)
  • Internships are PAID: 32 - 40 hour work week
  • Engineering internships include:
    • Electrical or Mechanical Design
    • Computer Programming
    • Manufacturing
    • Systems Engineering

Girls STEM Camp: SDSU Femineer Program

SDSU's College of Engineering Femineer Program will be offering the following summer STEM camps for girls:

Incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for the 2019-2020 school year:

  • Option 1: June 17 - 19, 2019
  • Option 2: July 30 - August 1, 2019


Incoming 9th and 10th graders for the 2019-2020 school year:

  • Option 1: July 1 - 3, 2019
  • Option 2: July 22 - 24, 2019


Each day runs from 9 am - 3 pm. Drop-off/Pick-up will be at 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego, CA 92182. You are responsible for getting your daughter to and from the camp site (we will not be providing transportation or additional child care).


At this 3-day STEM camp, girls will code robots, create circuit artwork (& take it home!), explore with various tools & technology, and much more! The $225 camp registration fee includes: supplies for the hands-on STEM activities during the 3-day camp at SDSU, a Girls STEM Camp swag bag, and daily snacks. Flyer HERE

Camp NAWIC San Diego provides a unique week-long, hands-on approach to a construction career to high school girls at no cost to the participants. Campers learn the basic elements of various construction trades and develop a “can-do” attitude they can apply in many aspects of their lives.
