Five Weeks Left

Good afternoon, Blackhawks! We are now down to the final five weeks of the 2021-2022 school year. Today, progress reports for online classes were emailed out to all secondary student and parents. Please be mindful of where you are at in your courses. As the year winds down, there are important reminders for end of the year celebrations and housekeeping items, especially for graduating seniors. Information found in this week's newsletter includes:

BLFH Students of the Week



Ms. Muscarella: Suri Thompson - Suri never gives up and always tries her best on all of her assignments. She brings so much laughter to our class! Good job, Suri!!


Mrs. Finn: Aubree Brown and Kaden Alexander - Both students have shown leadership by including new friends in their games at NWEA this week :)


Mrs. Locher: Brandon Metcalf - Brandon has worked so hard on getting caught up on his work. He has been a great leader during the group work as well. Keep it up, Brandon!



Middle School:

  • Lily Stock - Lily maintains all As and Bs, and if she gets a little behind pace, she always catches up the next week. Great work, Lily!
  • Tristan Hall - Tristan has worked hard the entire second semester. He has been ahead in his classes the entire semester! Keep up the good work and effort, Tristan, you're almost done!
  • Richard Renaud - Richard is getting above a 90% in all his classes, keep up the great work!


High School:

  • Amelia Quinnell - Amelia has been doing a great job attending zooms over the last several weeks and she's put in a lot of hours of work, too. She is ahead of pace in most of her classes and has great grades in all of them. Keep up the great work, Amelia!

IMPORTANT SENIOR EVENTS

Just a reminder for seniors to keep an eye out for the Senior newsletter (linked below). Lots of important information can be found here, some highlights are:


  • Graduating Seniors' last day is May 19
  • Cap and Gown pick up/Item and chromebook drop off/mandatory Senior Meeting are May 19 at 9:30am at the high school. Supplies will be dropped off and picked up in the auxiliary gym, then head over to the PAC for a Senior meeting. Cap and Gowns will not be given to a student if they have any unpaid fines or unreturned chromebooks.
  • Prom is May 26 at 6:30 at San Marino Club in Troy. See Senior Newsletter below for information on ticket sales.
  • Senior breakfast/rehearsal are on June 03
  • Senior Lock In is on June 03 at 10:30pm at the Legacy Center in Oxford
  • Commencement Ceremony is Sunday, June 05 at 2:00pm, Seniors need to report at 1:00pm

Brandon Middle School Awards Ceremony

To be held Wednesday, June 8 at 6:30pm in the PAC. Parents of students nominated will be notified. All are welcome. There are some BLFH students who have been recognized.

BLFH Elementary End of the Year Celebration

Friday, June 10 at noon join us in celebrating outside, together, all of the hard work this year and wishing our graduating fifth graders good luck as they move into middle school next year.

  • When: Friday, June 10 at 12:00pm
  • Where: Harvey Swanson Elementary Football field
  • Why: to celebrate hard word, determination, and future endeavors
  • What: Lunch and popsicles will be provided to all Brandon School District students regardless of grade. Any additional family members who would like to eat at the picnic can do so for a $3 charge. Complete the RSVP link in newsletters so we can get a head count. In addition to awards and recognition for students, we will also have fun outside yard games to play. We look forward to seeing you there!

Summer School

Dates: Weeks of June 20, June 27, and July 11, Monday - Thursday, 8:00am - 11:30am

Classes: ELA and Math classes will be taught live and in person by a Brandon High School teacher. All others will be done via Edmentum Credit Recovery Courseware

Cost: free to all Brandon School District students

Registration: deadline is June 17. Contact Samantha Popilek at spopilek@brandon.k12.mi.us for registration information

Grade/Drop Policy: 70% or higher = credit for completion, not a letter grade. All drops must be made by the second day of classes

Attendance: attendance is required. There are only 12 days of instruction. If a student reaches 3 absences, she/he will automatically be dropped from the program and will lost credit for summer school classes

Senior Newsletter - PLEASE READ!

  • Week of May 16 - Seniors' last week. If you are not finished with your courses, you need to keep working. You can finish early
  • May 19 - Cap and Gown pick up at 9:30, Senior meeting in the PAC immediately following
  • June 3 - Mandatory graduation rehearsal and Senior walk, Senior Lock in Legacy Center
  • June 5 - Graduation at 2pm

  • May 20 at 8:30am at the ITEC building
  • Bring ipads and chargers

Spring Testing - Middle School NWEA

All grades:

  • Wednesday, May 18
  • report to Brandon Middle School at 8:00am
  • Bring chromebooks and charger

Spring Testing - High School

Grades 9 and 10 NWEA Testing: Thank you to those of you who showed up to this required test in person. Those who did not attend, may be contacted by Mrs. Hogarth, the high school testing coordinator, to setup a time to test.

Secondary Engagement Incentives

We are getting closer to the end of the semester when the prize drawing will take place. As a reminder,


  1. Logging 600+ minutes per week in your online activity = entry into end of the year drawing for Brandon swag and tablet
  2. Present to all zoom sessions for the week = entry into end of the year drawing for Brandon swag and tablet
  3. On pace in all classes by the last Friday of the month, each month = local gift card mailed home

EDP Reminder

A reminder to all BLFH students, that a completed EDP is part of your graduation requirements in the state of Michigan. Login to Xello to complete your EDP in the coming weeks.. All students, not just seniors, should be working on their EDPs. Several students still need to complete their EDPs for the school year. If you have questions, please contact Christine Hogarth at chogarth@brandon.k12.mi.us.

  • use student email and password used to get into gmail.
  • If that password does not work please try all other passwords they know, or click " Having trouble signing in?" That will allow you to change password and gain access.


Once they are on Xello:

  • You will see, "Hey "NAME!"
  • Below that is a box that has a percentage wheel, that wheel MUST be at 100% ( students complete 2021/22 year only)
  • Click " Begin With Your EDP "Get Started" button


Students will see about 5-6 tasks they need complete (earn a green check mark) before they can unlock the white sheet of paper at the top of the screen to complete EDP at 100%

Library Tutoring - Free

The Brandon Township Public Library is excited to announce that we have been chosen as 1 of 10 libraries in Oakland County to offer FREE tutoring through a program provided by Eton Academy in Birmingham, MI. Tutoring will take place here at the library every Monday & Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm, starting Thursday, February 24. Parents can register their students for 30 minute sessions by following the link or QR code provided on the flyer attached. Registration is first come first serve and available spots will be provided a month in advance. As of now, the program is funded by a 2 year grant, so tutoring will be provided year round at the library until February 2024.
