Please complete the form and return it to school at least one week prior to the planned absence.

If you need to pick up your child during the school day (for an appointment for example), please send a note with your child that day that will inform their teacher and the office. If you forget to send a note, lease call the office with as much advanced notice as possible that day. This helps he teacher to prepare your student for their departure and minimize the time you may be waiting for your student. When you arrive you can enter the far right door into the vestibule area where there is a desk to sign out your student. If your student will be returning after the appointment, you will do the same and sign them in and then we will buzz your student into the office.

If your child will be arriving late to school in the morning, please be sure to call the attendance line to let us know. When you arrive with your child to school, you can enter the far right door into the vestibule area where there is a desk to sign in your student. Special Snack for Howard Students in September

Howard Elementary is partnering with School Nutrition to provide a snack program in the mornings to your child(ren) on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday's for the month of September. These high quality items are all locally grown items from Wisconsin. They come straight from organic, chemical farms and are going to be different and fun items that your child(ren) may have not tried before. Items include a rotation of the following: a variety of pepper (lunchbox and italian), variety of beans (dragon tongue and chinese long bean), pink shaped cherry tomatoes, multi colored carrots, and small pears (green and red!).

Please encourage them to try these items, even if it is a no thank you bite - they may be surprised and like it!

Lunch Visitors

Parents/guardian's can visit their students for lunch in our cafeteria. Visitors will need to enter through the office and will be required to check in via our Raptor background system with their driver's license. Visitors can join their student in the lunch room during their designated lunch time and will need to exit the building at the end of their student's lunch time. Visitors will not be allowed down the classroom hallways or outside at recess. If you would like to eat a school meal with your student, the cost of an adult meal is $5.00. Adults can choose to pay using their student's My SchoolBucks account or cash. If using your students account please be sure there are funds in the account. If you are using cash, please bring the exact amount as no change will be provided (if you do not have the exact cash, the change will be deposited into your students My SchoolBucks account). Please notify the school office by 9am if you would like to eat a school meal with your child that day. Please contact the office if you need to find out when your student eats lunch or if you have any other questions.

Thank you to parents who have already completed the Returning Student Registration process via Power School. We still have many students who this process needs to be completed for by their parents/guardians.

Parents and guardians of "Returning Students" to HSSD must complete this process for each student EVERY year. This includes kindergarten students that were previously in 4K through HSSD.

Review and update student information
>Log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal at
>Due to security updates from PowerSchool, you may be prompted to update/change your portal password. (*Note: passwords must be a minimum of 8 characters.)
>After you are logged into your account, you will notice your child’s name at the top of the page. Scroll down and select the “Returning Student Registration” icon on the left side of the screen. Review carefully and make changes to your child’s demographics and forms. You must click submit to finish Step 1. To complete for additional children, go back to the parent portal and select the next child in the upper left and repeat STEP 1.
>Lamers will be contacted with address and phone number changes. If an address change, Lamers will contact the parent/guardian with updated bus information.

Please call the school office if you have any questions. (Note: This process is only for students who attended HSSD last year. Not for students new to HSSD this year.)

Student Fees & Waiver Information

School fees will not be posted to pay until November 1, 2022 for all schools. Look for a future communication to pay fees. Families that qualify for meal benefits through the Direct Certification process and you would like the school office to waive the student fee, technology insurance, and/or you plan to register for additional Giving Tree benefits please fill out the Sharing Information with Other Programs form here. This needs to be completed each year

Volunteer Opportunities & Field Trip Chaperones

As we begin a new school year, we will have grade level field trips that may need chaperones and other possible parent volunteer opportunities.

  • Anyone interested in volunteering must go through the approval process that includes a background check.
  • More detailed information will be shared by your student's classroom teacher regarding the details of the field trips but we encourage you to begin this process now.
  • If you think you may already be approved but are unsure, please contact Michelle Derousseau in our office at to look up your information.
  • This process only needs to be completed once by an individual while your child(ren) are in the district.
  • Apply Early! This process can take up to a month to complete while we wait for the results of the background check from our 3rd party vendor.
  • Below is PDF with instructions with screenshots of each step of the application process.

The link below is where you'll find the information on how to set up your HSSD volunteer profile and begin this process.

1. Once you follow the link, scroll down to where it says "Get Involved" under the Volunteer Login section. Click on that and more instructions will appear.

The Giving Tree

Did you know The Giving Tree offers family education opportunities during pantry time? We have a nutrition educator coming monthly and have offered resources such as energy assistance, insurance navigation and employment connection.

The Giving Tree is excited for a new school year! More than 600 students were invited to our one Back-to-School event in early August! These students received school supplies, backpacks, socks and underwear. Students were also given oral health care bags, had the opportunity to sign up for in-district dental care, and signed up for free or reduced meal benefits through our School Nutrition department. Families also received food from our pantry. If you think you may qualify for support from The Giving Tree, please reach out to Kourtney Feldhausen at or call 920-662-7989.
