How to get tested for COVID over the summer

There are many places where Rhode Islanders can get COVID-19 testing. State-run COVID-19 test sites will close at the end of June 2022. The State may reopen certain test sites if COVID-19 Community Levels are high. For more information, visit https://covid.ri.gov/testing.

Stay in Tip Top Shape During the Summer

Please keep your child engaged in learning during the summer. I cannot stress this enough. There is such a thing called the "Summer Slide" and we definitely want to avoid it. Students have made a lot of gains during the school year especially after the COVID learning loss and I would hate to see children slip backwards if they do not stay active in their learning over the summer.

To help avoid this, we have put together a reading and math summer challenge. The math challenge is similar to what we did in March and April and the students really enjoyed it. Summer reading is just that. READING! So, have your child pick up books and read throughout the break. Children will track their reading path over summer break and log how much they read. We are asking students to write 2-3 quick book reviews that we will use when we return in September. Hard copies of the work will be coming home but you can view them by clicking on the documents directly below this message.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The summer math flyer that went home contained an error on how to sign-in to google. The file below is updated but you can also click HERE to view the document. The username is the child's first 4 letters, middle initial, and first 4 of the last name followed by @charihochargers.org. For example, James Thomas Smith would be jametsmit@charihochargers.org. The password is your child’s 6-digit birthday.

Message for 4th grade families

Chromebooks: As a request from CMS, 4th grade students will be keeping their chromebooks and chargers for the summer. The 4th grade students will need their school device for summer work. So, that means 4th grade students will take their devices home for the summer and will turn them in when CMS distributes new devices to the 5th graders. CMS will be in touch at the end of the summer for the swap. Thank you.

CMS Summer Reading: Chariho Middle School requires your child to read 2 books over the summer. Students are encouraged to read any book that matches their interests and challenges them! Students must complete a book project for each book to receive credit for summer reading. Students should bring projects in on the first day of school. Project options and criteria can be found on the CMS library summer reading page: https://guides.rilinkschools.org/charihomiddleschool/summerreading

This summer, every CMS student (entering grades 5-8) will be required to complete six (6) lessons on their My Path in iReady. Please see this link for complete information.

End of year Fun Events

TALENT SHOW - Below is the talent/variety show link. Mrs. Zonfrilli out did herself again. Thank you Mrs. Z and those that helped make the show a success (Mr. Fanning, Mrs. Scheer, Mrs. Carpenter, and Mrs Hall). It was great to bring back this event for the children. I am always so impressed that our students have the courage to get up on stage to perform. Love this about our children. Link to great pictures is HERE. The link to the actual show is HERE.

4th GRADE MOVING UP CEREMONY - On 6/17/22 we celebrated our current 4th graders in a moving up ceremony. Thank you Laura Clarke for creating the 21-22 slideshow for the children. It was amazing. There is another video that Mrs. Moore created for the 4th graders. Mrs. Moore is a TA who oversees the 4th graders at lunch and recess. This video is definitely worth the watch. Enjoy!

Updates for the 22-23 School Year

There will be a few changes going into the 2022-2023 school year.

BREAKFAST & LUNCH - Breakfast and lunches will NOT be free next year. I will send out more information in the summer regarding lunches. Please know that anyone whose children qualify for free or reduced lunch can apply at any time during the school year. This is a benefit to which people are entitled. Application and Instructions will be sent out over the summer.

  • Cost for breakfast is $1.25 and lunch is $2.50. Milk only is $.50.

DISMISSAL - There will be changes to the dismissal process next year for safety reasons and to streamline the parent pick-up and bus dismissal. This was discussed at the last SIT meeting. We will not be having parents loop around the back of the school to pick up children for parent pick-up next school year. This was due to the pandemic and I will be sure to send out an update before school starts with the new protocol. The current practice will continue through the rest of this year.
