May 10, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Estimadas familias de Woodcrest,
Please join us this Friday, May 12 from 5-7 p.m. for our Celebration of Learning event. We will showcase student work in hallways and common spaces throughout the event and in classrooms until 6:15 p.m. There also will be a carnival, food trucks, Latin dance lessons and more! Thanks to our PTO for their collaboration with this event.
With summer approaching, please keep in mind that students will keep their school-issued iPads over the summer. If you do not want your child to keep their iPad over the summer, you will be able to turn it into the main office for storage. See more details in the newsletter.
It is hard to believe we are moving into the last few weeks of school! We have lots of fun planned for these weeks. Please keep an eye on the calendar and this newsletter for updates. Thanks for all you do, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!
In partnership,
Jaime Nymann
Principal
Plans for iPads this summer
This summer, Spring Lake Park Schools' families with students in grades K-11 will once again be able to keep their school-issued iPad at home for summer. If you prefer the school to hold the iPad over the summer, you will be able to turn it into the main office on the last day of school. Students have the opportunity to use their iPad for additional learning and resources and are expected to return with it for the 2023-2024 school year.
- Graduating seniors: Seniors who are graduating or unenrolling from the Spring Lake Park Schools district after this school year need to turn in their school-issued iPad, case and Apple charger. Seniors will return their technology on Thursday, June 9 during their rehearsal for graduation.
- Students not returning next school year: Students and families who will not be enrolled for the 2023-2024 school year should turn in their iPad, case and Apple charger to their home school office, or the District Services Center at 1415 81st Ave NE, Spring Lake Park, MN 55432.
- Looking ahead to 2023-24 for 5th, 6th and 9th grade: Students entering 5th, 6th and 9th grade will receiving a new iPad, case and charger. Watch for further communications for a summer exchange date.
For technology support visit the iPad Resource Hub or contact the Technology Services Department at techsupport@district16.org or 763-600-5555.
Outstanding School Fees: How to pay through Campus Parent Portal
As we near the end of the 2022-2023 school year, we ask that families pay any outstanding fees they may have acquired throughout the school year. Fees could range from technology to library books and music fees.
To check if your family has any outstanding fees and to pay for the fees, login to Campus Parent Portal and click on "Fees" located in the left-hand black column. We ask that families pay all fees by June 30, 2023.
Dismissal
We want to remind you that our Woodcrest Spanish Immersion school day ends at 3:45 p.m. and the main office closes at 4 p.m. Please make sure that you have an end of day pick up plan for your student(s).

Road Trippin’
There’s nothing more exciting on a sunny spring morning than a school bus waiting with its door open, a bag lunch (that hopefully includes a “brookie!”), and hours with friends on a learning adventure ahead. This spring, students have been taking their learning on the road. Field trip!
“Field trips, when embedded into the overall learning experiences of a unit, can provide a unique perspective for students that extends beyond the walls of a classroom,” says Melissa Olson, director of curriculum and instructional practices. “We believe strongly in flexible use of time and space, and this is just one more example of what that can look and sound like.”
Students have been out and about in the our community. They've been at the Science Museum, Target Field, Orchestra Hall, Bell Museum of Natural History, Alexander Ramsey House and more.

Al rescate
Students in Sra. Waibel's class had to engineer a way to rescue personal items that had fallen into the "sewer drain" using only things they could find in the nearby trash, all before their bus came and.... the items (keys, id cards, glasses, cash, headphones) were lost forever!
These students had to use collaboration as well as creativity in order to accomplish the rescue mission and from the looks of it, it seems like they really had fun!
Only two days until our Celebration of Learning Carnival!
New volunteer opportunities have just been added for the Friday, May 12 at our Celebration of Learning Carnival! Short 35 minute shifts give you lots of time to enjoy the rest of the night! We have listed some opportunities here but would love it if anyone has balloon twisting, juggling, magic tricks, or unicycling they could also show off outside during our carnival.
Other fun at the Celebration of Learning includes student work displays, food trucks, and from 5:30-6:30 p.m., basic Latin dance instruction along with a little history of the origins of each dance.
It's Staff Appreciation Week!
Staff have already enjoyed Fancy Drink Day, a red carpet welcome, and breakfast. It's not too late to contribute gift cards by tomorrow or send in a note of thanks from yourself or your student.
Mileage Club is up and running - literally!
We need volunteers to join us on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to cheer students as they run/walk during recess. Parent volunteers also help students scan cards to track miles and hand out prizes (on Fridays). If you would like to sign up to help, click here to see recess times and available opportunities.
