CGE May Newsletter
Hello CGE Families!
Welcome to Distance Learning 2.0! Thank you for your support, involvement and time with your children during this challenging time. We know that learning from home is not easy and can be overwhelming. As your children continue with their Distance Learning through the month of May, please encourage them to keep participating and checking in. This is how we are taking attendance. If your child cannot check in or participate for any reason, please contact your child’s teacher and let them know the reason for their absence. The teacher will then enter in the excused absence into our attendance system. We take attendance by the week, not daily. We understand that students may not be able to participate every day for a variety of reasons (daycare, family work schedules, technology issues, etc.). If students turn in more than one day’s assignments on a certain day, night or weekend that is just fine. As long as they are completing the assignments within the week. Hang in there!
It is Staff Appreciation week this week and it is really hard to appreciate from a distance! If you or your children would like to send a little note to any of our CGE staff please do! It will make their day!
Our last Work, Respect, Belong word for this school year is POLITE - Follow the link for a message from Mrs. Faletti https://drive.google.com/open?id=1w-cnFO-iSQeaSTvqxikPaRr8FmiQEL8p We are focusing on what politeness looks like and sounds like. Please see the list of April’s Capable Community Members who exhibit Generous behaviors. Congratulations to these students!
Enjoy the week and know we are missing everyone! Take Care!

PTO Message - Teacher Appreciation Week!
Hello CGE families,
It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and we know the teachers would love to hear from you now more than ever since they are really missing the kids and their families!
Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day. And with the abrupt end to the physical school year, our teachers have done even more to continue education with virtual classrooms and learning at home lessons. All to ensure every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential.
It's in these challenging times that we truly recognize and appreciate how our nation’s educators play such a pivotal role in our children’s lives—inspiring a lifelong love of learning and discovery and making a difference in their well-being and long-term success.
Therefore, please take a little time this week to send them an email, a video using Seesaw, or use one of the attached letters the Art Sparks Coordinator, Andrea, created for you to print, fill out and mail to the school. (7447 65th Street South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016)
Don’t forget to let the specialists and staff know how much you appreciate them too!
Thank you for helping us show the CGE teachers and staff how much they mean to all of us!

Collection and Distribution Day June 3 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
You will be receiving information about how to sign up for a time to come to CGE on June 3rd for distribution of student items and collection of school materials (iPad, Chromebook, instruments, Library books, Classroom supplies). You will be receiving this sign up information in the next week. This will look just like the first bag distribution that took place in March.
We ask that only one adult come to collect and turn in items (if it is possible, we prefer that students do not come into the building). Please use the back gym door entrance again. We will have your child’s belongings in a labeled bag:
- Desk and Locker materials
- There will also be a Progress Narrative attached to the bag to summarize the year in Reading and Math.
- If our yearbooks are here we will include those in the student bag as well if you ordered one. If you would still like to reserve a copy, please email Mrs. Gerfast at cgerfast@sowashco.org.
Each teacher will have a designated area for the bags and there will also be two bins. One for any school issued technology devices (iPads or Chromebooks) and one for any classroom materials that teachers are requesting to be returned. There will also be a bin by the door for returning Library books. Please let us know if you have any questions about this process. Thank you!

CGES is hosting a Read-At-Home Challenge titled “Growing GREAT Readers!”
This whole school initiative is designed to inspire students to keep reading while at home, challenge them to meet personal goals, and stay connected to the CGE Community through incentives and prizes. Each week Mrs. Galbus and Mrs. Gamache will be pushing out Seesaw activities including a time-card that students can complete for weekly reading. After the week is over and activities are submitted, Mrs. Galbus and Mrs. Gamache will draw names for prize winners and update the CGE Website. Student prizes will be distributed via their bags for pick-up on June 3rd. Weekly drawings include bookmarks, pencils, Scholastic animal erasers, books, posters, gift cards to Target, and weekly grand prize drawings for Culver’s Custard Delivery (where we will arrange a time with families to drop off a frozen treat for them)! We hope you all participate!
