Del Escritorio del Sr. Franke
Greetings Woodcrest families,
I hope this finds you well, rested and healthy after the long weekend. As you know, this is the last week of the trimester. Unlike past years, we do have school this Friday, December 4. Originally, it was a day for teacher workshops. It was moved to the beginning of the school year for planning purposes. As previously scheduled, there will be no school on Monday, December 7. Teachers use this day for grading and reporting. Please see the Need to Know section below for information regarding Trimester 1 report cards.
This week we transitioned to Extended Flexible Learning for all K-6 students, and I am very curious about how it is going for your family. This 1-page overview provides an outline of what you and your child should be experiencing. And, this story - Experiences from distance learning - showcases what this experience is like now compared to last spring. If you are not having this experience, I want to hear from you so we can work to deliver these expectations.
As I continue to get acclimated to Woodcrest, I am also interested in conducting some small group, 2-3 families at a time, meetings. The intention is for me to get to know you and, more importantly, get to know your first-hand experience as parents supporting an Immersion experience during this pandemic. If you are interested in joining me for a conversation, please contact Yesica Garay-Muñoz.
At this point, we will be in Extended Flexible Learning (distance) through at least winter break. It is not what we all want and yet it is a good reminder of the importance of Juntos es Mejor/Better Together - our mantra at Woodcrest this year. I appreciate your partnership, support and patience. If there is anything I, or our staff, can do to support your child at this time, please let me know.
Thank you,
John Franke
Trimester 1 Report Cards
Trimester 1 report cards will be available beginning December 8, 2020 and can be accessed through Campus Parent Portal. Watch a video tutorial on how to access your student’s report card through Campus Parent Portal. If you have any questions regarding this please contact the main office at 763-600-5800.
Please know that report cards are just one of many ways teachers report on student learning throughout the year. Report card grades reflect student learning, and teachers look at evidence of learning, over time, to determine where students are at in their learning at the time of report cards. At the end of a trimester all grades reflect the student learning that occurred at the time of the report card. Grades for Woodcrest students include:
MS: Minimal progress toward standard
AS: Approaching the standard
S: Met the standard
ES: Exceeds the standard
You may see two other marks on the report card:
An NA indicates that students did not have opportunities to learn this outcome throughout Trimester 1. Any learning outcomes marked as NA for Trimester 1 will be addressed throughout the rest of the year.
An NE (No Evidence) grade indicates that students had opportunities to learn this outcome during Trimester 1, but did not submit any evidence of their learning. As a result, there is no evidence to determine where they are at toward meeting the learning outcome. Any learning outcomes marked as NE for Trimester 1 will be addressed throughout the rest of the year.
Free meal pick-up and community distribution
Spring Lake Park Schools will continue to support students’ nutritional needs. We will provide a bagged breakfast and lunch option to all children ages 1-18 at no cost.
We will be distributing free meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 locations throughout the community. On Tuesdays, families will receive two-days’ worth of meals. On Thursdays, families will receive three-days’ worth of meals.
Students and families should visit the website for updated information and to find the interactive map of the 10 distribution locations.
December 11 Lifetouch Picture Retake Day Canceled
The Friday, December 11 Lifetouch school picture retake day has been canceled. We will work with Lifetouch in mid-January 2021 to schedule a new day for retakes when we know more about their availability.
Webex Meetings for Spanish-Speaking Families to Connect
As of last April, SLP has been hosting open WebEx meetings with families in Spanish. These take place every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. in Emily Byers-Ferrian's WebEx room. Any parent is welcome to participate; the purpose of these gatherings is to maintain a sense of community, exchange ideas and resources in support of students, and help one another stay informed.
