JULY NEWSLETTER
High School Solo & Ensemble 2016-2017
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT! You have been heard and we have made some changes to this year's Solo & Ensemble festival based on survey results compiled at All-State.
More details will follow pending board approval on August 20, but below are some key points and dates:
TIER 1 will be LIVE performances on Saturday, January 21 held at four satellite locations (East Valley, West Valley, Tucson and Flagstaff). REGISTRATION deadline will be November 18.
TIER 2 will be electronic submissions via dropbox with a submission window of January 28 - February 28
TIER 3 will be the same (held in conjunction with All-State on April 7)
This proposal addresses many of the concerns that our constituents voiced including:
· moving the event away from conference
· incorporating a live performance
· pushing the timeline back to a later date in the school year
· integrating both live and recorded submissions
Overall I believe that this will be very positive change for the solo & ensemble festival, and reflects our mission to continually improve AMEA festivals. As always, we welcome your feedback.

David Waggoner recognized as a Lowell Mason Fellow at the NAfME National Assembly
The Lowell Mason Fellow recognizes contributions to the field of music education and is only given to a small number each year at the NAfME National Assembly. This year David Waggoner, AMEA Executive Director, was one of only five recipients. Please see your fall Arizona Music News for a full article.
It was not easy to keep this top secret information from David for all of these months and we could not have done it without your support. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped with this endeavor.
I know that we all extremely proud of David. His dedication, helpfulness, and longevity to the profession truly epitomize music education in Arizona. We are grateful for all that he does and It is a privilege to see David receive the distinguished honor as a Lowell Mason Fellow.
What has your AMEA board been doing this summer?
