CoGAt Testing This Week
The CogAT Test measures the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student compared to age mates and grade mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school. The CogAT measures three different cognitive abilities.
• The verbal section measures a child’s ability to remember and transform sequences of words, to understand them and to make inferences and judgments about them.
• The quantitative section measures a child’s understanding of basic quantitative concepts and relationships.
• The non-verbal section measures reasoning using pictures and geometric shapes. This section reduces the impact of language on the student’s score.
• The composite score is a total score for all three batteries.
Students will be taking the CoGAt Test Tuesday-Thursday this week. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast.

Progress Reports
We will be sending progress reports home with students next Monday, September 16. These reports will only go home with students who have a 75 average or below in any subject. If your child receives one, please sign it and return it back to us.
Remember, you can check your child's grades and state and district test scores at parentportal.pisd.edu.
Novel Project
Students have opportunities to read their novel during the school day but the majority of the book should be read at home. Students will be doing several independent assignments specifically about their novel so they will have to know all about it.
One assignment will be a major grade while the other is a double daily grade. These will be due on October 4 and completed at school. Thanks!
