Charles Upson November Newsletter

From Principal Gilson

Dear Parents/Legal Guardians:

I appreciate your flexibility as we navigate a few obstacles with the construction in the front foyer. As we continue to work through this, please know, when visiting CU you should use the entrance to the LEFT in the front of the building. This is different from how we started school in September. As always, the doors will be secured and you will need to buzz in to get assistance from the main office staff. Once all issues are rectified, I will send you another update.

Friday, November 4: 15-Minute Early Release Drill

Please know the annual “15-Minute Early Release Drill” will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022. Bus students should arrive home a few minutes earlier than normal on this day. In the event of a true emergency, all families should have an emergency plan in place in case parents/legal guardians are not home when the school bus arrives to drop children off. Children should know parent phone numbers, whom to call, and which neighbor’s house to go to, if appropriate. Please take a moment to review your safety plan with your child. As always, your child’s safety is our top priority.

Big Apple Crunch Day

Charles Upson Elementary joined the New York State Education Department in the Big Apple Crunch. By taking a bite out of an apple grown in New York students helped to support local agriculture and family farms. All while having some fun celebrating the locally grown apple harvest!

Colder Weather

With the inclement weather soon approaching, children need to be dressed appropriately for the colder weather. Coats, hats, gloves, scarves and boots are essential for recess. Children will go outside for their 20 minutes of recess as long as it is not raining and temperatures are not “frigid”. Please be sure your child is prepared for the elements.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences are a time for you to discuss your child’s strengths and concerns with the classroom teacher. Your child’s teacher will be scheduling these meetings later this month. Please be sure to indicate if you prefer a Google Meet, telephone conference or in-person appointment and he/she will work with you to schedule this. Conferences will be scheduled for Tuesday, November 22 and/or Wednesday, December 7. Students will be dismissed at 11:50 am on both days.

Lunch Monitors Needed

Lastly, we are in need of Lunch Monitors. Please feel free to contact the CU Main Office at 716-478-4403 for more information.
