Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955

Rosa Parks
Rosa parks was born February 4,1913. In 1955 she refused to obey the law that stated that a black person must give up their seat to a white person. She was arrested and fined 10 dollars. People were outraged and with the help of Jo Ann Robinson and the Women's Political Council the Montgomery bus boycott was organized. Many people say she is the mother of the civil rights movement, because she helped the civil rights movement gain momentum.
KKK (Ku Klux Klan)
The Ku Klux Klan was an extremely racist group of people who discriminated against African American people. During the Montgomery Bus Boycott the KKK would hold rallies and bomb Black people's houses.
Jo Ann Robinson
Jo Ann Robinson was born on April 17, 1912. She was a civil rights activist, and with her help 40,000 people were organized in just 2 days to boycott the bus system.
Long Term Effects
The Boycott lasted more than a year, and crippled the income of public transport.
Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr, a huge part of the Civil Rights Movement, spoke at Holt Street Baptist Church on December 5, 1955. He was 26 at the time and said "If we are wrong, the Constitution of the United States is wrong."
