What is Domestic Violence?
Domestic Violence is abuse by one person against his or her partner. Acts of Domestic Violence usually are when a man hits or abuses his wife or girlfriend. Domestic incidents can be between a man and a woman or the same-sex. There are numerous forms of domestic violence including Physical, emotional, verbal, or sexual abuse.
How often do acts of Domestic Violence Occur?
On Average 20 people per minute are abused by their intimate partner in the United States, that's more than 10 million people per year. 1 in 3 woman have been victims of domestic violence in their lifetime by their intimate partner. On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide. Common victims of domestic violence are woman ages 18-24.
Why is Domestic Violence becoming a big topic now?
The reason that domestic violence is under the microscope more than ever right now, is because athletes have been committing acts of domestic violence. These Athletes who are mainly NFL players, are committing these acts and many people their respective leagues are not doing enough to discipline these players.
