iTunes vs. Google Play
Taylor Hoover
Emphasis
Google Play
The Google Play store focuses on games and "new releases" of movies and music.
iTunes
The Apple iTunes store focuses more on music and movies.
Google Play on a PC
This is the homepage of when you open Google Play on a computer.
Google Play on Mobile
This is the homepage of Google Play on Mobile. From here, you click where you want to go and it will take you to that part of the site. It is very easy to get back to the homepage if you want.
Google Play on Tablet
This is when you open up the apps from the homepage. It will show you a picture of the app and if you click on the app, it will give you a description of the app and some more pictures.
Apple iTunes App Store on a MAC
On a MAC computer, the app store for Apple is a little bit different then what it would be on the iphone or on an ipad.
Apple iTunes App Store on an iphone
This is when you are looking for the apps through the whole store.
Apple iTunes App Store on an ipad
This picture shows you all of the apps on the app store that is on the ipad.
Prices of the Apps
Google Play
With the Google Play store, most of the games you can get for your phone or tablet is free or about .99 cents. If you are looking for new release movies, that will cost you about 10-20 dollars per movie.
iTunes
When looking for music on the Apple iTunes store, you will pay around a $1.29 per song. This also depends on the singer and how new the song is and what not. You can sometimes get discounts on songs and games.
Layout of the Apps
Google Play
When you first come to the home page of Google Play, it gives you options on where you would like to go. You can look at all of the boxes on the left of the page and choose if you would want to go to apps, games, music, movies, etc. All of this is easy access. I think the layout of Google Play is easier to navigate rather than iTunes.
iTunes
When you first enter the iTunes site, you get blasted with a bunch of other choices that you can choose from. There is just blue text going all the way down the screen showing you all of the different options that you are able to choose from. I think that iTunes is more complicated and you really need to know what you are doing to get to where you want to go.
Which Store is Easier?
Google Play
Google Play is a much easier app to access on both your cellphone and on a PC. Every option is right in front of you, but not overpowering the page. Google Play has a search bar on the top of the homepage so if you cannot find what you're looking for, you can just search it at the top.
iTunes
Apple iTunes is a bit more complicated to use. When you first enter the site, there is so many choices that you can choose from. There is a search bar, but I think that Google Play has a better set up. Along with the homepage on iTunes, the other pages aren't much easier to navigate through. For example, if you search country for a music genre, It brings up every single country music artist known to them. You must then go through all of the artists to find the one that you want, then go through all of their music to find the song or album you are looking for.
Availability of the Apps
Google Play
When apps first come out and start becoming popular, usually it is the Apple iTunes store that has it out first. It does take a little bit longer for Google Play to get the app, but only by a few days. Sometimes, the Google Play apps are better than the iTunes apps because they tweak the app a little bit to get the best quality of the app.
iTunes
iTunes usually always gets the apps first. When the apps are being pushed through to success, iTunes opens them up first, but that may not always be a good thing. A lot of the times, iTunes apps sometimes have glitches that they have to update the app very quickly right after it comes out. Even though Google Play comes out with the app a little later than iTunes, There apps come out with less glitches.
Who Has More Apps?
Google Play
I think that Google Play and iTunes both have a lot of apps, some being the same and some being different. The one app store that would have the most apps would probably be the Apple iTunes store. Google Play does have a lot of apps that you are able to download. I think Google Play has more movies that you are able to download. I think that Google Play has better quality apps than the Apple iTunes store.
iTunes
iTunes has a wider variety with their apps. Google Play and iTunes do have some of the same apps, but iTunes has a wider variety of the apps. If you are not willing to pay for an app, they sometimes have trial runs that you can do to see if you would want to buy the app or not. iTunes has so many different apps that you can choose from, it is an endless amount. Sometimes more is not always better. I think the quality of the Apple iTunes store apps are a little less than the Google Play store apps. I think that the Apple apps aren't prepared enough to get the "perfect" app.
The Approval
Google Play
Before you start to submit an app to the Google Play store, you have to test it and prepare the app to be distributed. You need to know the process of submitting the app. You need to know the agreement policies for Google. Google will actually have you test the app before it will be published. The rating of the app is also very important. All of these are important to completing the steps of publishing your app. The last step is that you have to support the people who are using your app. With Google Play, you first need to pay a registration fee which is $25. Also, it depends on what the app is.
iTunes
Submitting an app to the Apple iTunes Store is a little bit easier, with less steps than Google Play. All you have to do for the Apple iTunes Store is to review the guidelines, review the app board, start to get a license agreement, and look and read anymore guidelines that Apple has. Some additional items to submit your app would be to set up a price and all of the other basic necessities into submitting an app. in order to set up an app, you first need to become a developer. To become a developer, it will cost about $99.
