Our Vipers had another great week on campus and have continued to work hard through the 4th week of the year. We also want to thank those of you who came out to our first PTSO General Meeting of the year on Tuesday and those of you who dined at Babbo on Wednesday at our first restaurant night of the year. These restaurant nights are a great way to support out PTSO and local businesses who help SV.
We are also still on the lookout for some staff members on our paraprofessional team, a crossing guard, and also we are still in need of a school nurse. If you, or anyone you know is interested in learning more about working at SV, please give our office a call or stop in for more details. If you would just like to help at a few hours here or there, we would love to connect you with PTSO and would welcome any help from a few hours on up. For more information contact email@example.com.

Thank you Peyton and Foley Family for your support- you have your hands full!

Welcome to SV Mrs. Tutrone
Hi, my name is Jeanette Tutrone and this is my 23rd year teaching in Deer Valley. I am originally from New York and moved out to AZ after graduating from SUNY Oneonta with my degree in elementary education. I also have my master’s degree from NAU in elementary education and reading. I have been married for 28 years to my husband, Rob, and have 2 children. My daughter, Kalli, is 23, and my son, Colton, is 20. As a family, we love to travel and do all kinds of outdoor activities. I am very excited to be a part of the Sierra Verde staff as a .5 EL Specialist this year. I look forward to getting to know and work with the students and staff on this campus!!!
The PTSO held its first meeting of the school year this past Tuesday. Thank you to everyone that attended!
Our first restaurant night of the year kicked off on Wednesday at Babbo’s. We appreciate everyone that participated! Make sure to tag Sierra Verde PTSO on Instagram and Facebook on these nights.
The PTSO needs donations for Bingo Night and our Silent Auction! Please drop off any items to the school or contact Mandy Balart at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss how you can help!

Visitors and Volunteers @ SV
Hello SV Families,
For parents who are interested in volunteering at any DVUSD school, but have not taken the required District Volunteer training classes we have the following training classes in place at Sierra Verde:
Tuesday, September 6th at 8:15 AM
Thursday, October 20th at 5:00 PM
The volunteer training is a requirement to do any type of campus volunteering including attending field trips with your student as a chaperone. The classes will be held in our Media Center. No RSVP is required to attend; however, you must be on time and stay for the full training. The trainings last about 40 minutes or less.
If you have previously taken the volunteer training, you will not need to attend another one. You will need to come to the front office to update your information and your volunteer agreement for the year prior to volunteering.
Below you will also find the master calendar of volunteer training dates at all DVUSD sites. You can attend training at any site.

22-23 Sierra Verde Handbook and Policies
Below you will find our Back to School Checklist of policies and procedures. In the document our SV Student Handbook and DVUSD Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook are linked for your review. We ask that you print the 1st page and sign it, and return it to your child's homeroom teacher or you can drop it in the office or outside our office in our after hours drop box. We have hard copies available in the office for anyone who does not have a printer or needs a hard copy. These forms are due back by August 19.
PBIS Rewards Update
PBIS Rewards is off to a great start this year. Students can use their points earned for being safe, responsible, respectful and kind to purchase fun items. These items are delivered on Fridays. If you are interested in tracking your student through our PBIS Rewards app, download the PBIS Rewards for Family app and ask your child's teacher for their unique QR code.
If you are interested in donating to our PBIS store, we have a PBIS Store Amazon Wishlist. You can also drop off any donation items to our office - new/gently loved stuffed animals are always a popular item.
Help stock the PBIS Store Rewards Store by purchasing Rewards directly on Amazon. If you purchase from our PBIS Rewards wishlist it will ship directly to campus and our kids can purchase immediately. Stock our store here:

Mindfulness Monday Challenge of the Week
Mindful Listening - Have you ever tried to have a conversation with somebody who wasn't listening to you? Could you tell? Have you ever seen yourself nodding and smiling during a conversation while in your mind you were thinking about something totally different? Mindful listening involves taking an active role in hearing the person speaking with you so you can understand and remember what they said. Mindful listening is about being present in your conversation so others feel heard and perceive your intention to listen and understand them. Take time this week to notice the way you listen to those around you. Can you repeat the teacher's directions? Are you making eye contact with the person talking to you?
Challenge for the Week: HEAR. HALT. ENJOY. ASK.
Hear when someone is talking. Stop what you are doing and make eye contact with them to show you are listening. Enjoy a breath as you choose to receive whatever is being said - keep your own thoughts and stories in your brain. Ask yourself if you really know what they mean and if you don't, ask questions.

- DVUSD is no longer under any Covid restrictions or mandated reporting. If your child is healthy they may come to school, and if they are ill with Covid or any other illness, you just need to call them in as ill and keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours and not experiencing any major symptoms.
- As a reminder we are not accepting any outside food or drink to classrooms this year, all birthday buckets must be purchased through Mrs. Jasperson
- If you bring your student's lunch to the front office, we have a late lunch table in the cafeteria that all student's will be able to check. Just put their name on their lunch bag and it will be delivered to the cafeteria.
- If you are calling in your student as absent, please call the attendance line directly so you can leave a message. Our absence line is 623-376-4890
- Next Friday, 9/2 is a 2:00 pm early release for Professional Learning Community Collaborative Team Time.
Food and Nutrition
Sierra Verde is still currently looking for a full-time nurse, and until we are able to hire a full-time nurse, we will not be allowing outside food or drink for any reason on campus. DVUSD has a birthday bucket order form that will be the only method of birthday treats for 22-23. You can fill out an application for a birthday bucket and work with our Cafeteria Manger Mrs. Debbie Jasperson to arrange these birthday treats. The Birthday Bucket application is on our homepage and is linked below as well.
In order to keep meal account balances topped off, you can put money on the student account with cash or check at Meet Your Teacher night in the MPR, drop off cash or check in the office, or use E-Z school pay which is free through September 7th. EZ School pay also has an app available to download and track your balance.
