Math Stuff #24
Highlighting some Math Ideas and Strategies
In the news recently and almost daily we hear about different types of people fighting for their right to do something or not be discriminated against. I recently heard a teacher talk about how students don't have rights and it made me think that if they don't that maybe they should. I put together some rights for elementary math students below. I think every child in our district deserves these rights and more from all of us who are put in charge of their futures.
EMS-ISD ELEMENTARY STUDENT MATH BILL OF RIGHTS
AS STUDENTS YOU HAVE THE RIGHT:
1. To be fluent in all 4 operations by the end of 5th grade
2. To have a teacher that loves and knows mathematics so that I may also know and love it
3. To have a teacher that knows the state expectations and continues to grow as an educator
4. To have a teacher/system in place that will detect and correct misconceptions in my learning about mathematics
5. To be a part of a learning community where questions are expected and encouraged
6. To be successful not only on our state assessment, but able to apply mathematics to my life
Below is the first 2 webisodes of the new Scholastic Math @ Work series. Also listed below is the link to the site. Next webisode is April 14th with Ty Pennington.
4th 9 WEEKS - 3RD, 4th, & 5th GRADE SKILLS BLOCK
