Students use the writing process in order to prewrite an imaginative narrative. Students will use the writing process in order to draft an imaginative narrative. We've also been working on narrative and descriptive writing over the last several weeks.
Students will ask and answer questions about a text in order to better understand fairy tales and nursery rhymes in the coming weeks. We'll use the W questions; who, what, when, where, and why.
Math
We'll wrap up this unit soon, and jump into geometry!
We'll start by having students classify and sort 2D shapes based on attributes using informal language; at home look for ways to ask them about different shapes they see like circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares as special rectangles, rhombuses, and hexagons. Once they can classify and describe with informal language they will use formal language to describe and classify the 2D shapes.
Science and Social Studies
Science:
We're using our new knowledge about weather and air to help us explore and learn more in science while we think like mechanical engineers!
Students will explore the Engineering Design Process in order to understand that engineering and design involve invention and innovation as a thinking and doing process. They're working on creating and testing their own sails, and will soon design, create, and build their own windmill as part of the Engineering Design Process.
Social Studies:
Students will be able to explain the meaning of American Symbols and identify the anthem and mottoes in order to understand culture shapes societies. Over the next few weeks students will
obtain information about U.S. symbols using visual sources
