Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Go Green
Dear Parents,
We hope you all had a wonderful and restful Spring break! Our children had a great time learning about our natural environment. Plants, trees, seeds, animals and more, these were the center of attention for quite some time and we managed to bring it to a terrific closure at the zoo. However, our current unit; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, will blend in magically with all we have already learned. The objective of this new unit is to help students understand how important it is to be more aware of the world around them, point out problems and brainstorm solutions or positive actions.
In this unit, students will observe, gather data, explore and propose solutions to everyday problems. We will also require some help from you at home by helping to collect different objects we can investigate here at school. As we study trash and garbage and how we can reduce, reuse and recycle, we will learn concepts related to math, literacy, science, arts etc. Our aim is to guide our students towards developing important questions after they have explored, observed and investigated a variety of concepts and materials.
At home, you can support our unit by talking about the trash your family generates, have them take some trash to the recycling center, or take them to see where the trash is disposed of. If you recycle at home, then they can take on the responsibility of sorting the trash with you.

Parent Conferences will be taking place in April 6th and 7th, (the 6th will be half day for students, and the 7th no school for the kids) It is NOT student led conference so children stay at home.
WHAT YOU CAN DO AT HOME
Talk with your child about trash and garbage, Help raise your child's awareness of the kinds of trash and garbage your family creates each day. Borrow some library books about trash, garbage and recycling. When you are outside with your child and you notice a piece of trash on the ground, point it out and talk about it. For example say " I wonder why someone dropped that candy wrapper on the ground. Is it supposed to be there? Is there a better place to put it?
