Summer Info./Reminders
Colts,
I hope this newsletter finds each of you well and enjoying a summer full of great memories with your family. As noticed when walking in retail stores, reminders like the Back-to-School aisles are hints that school is just around the corner for our Colts (just under a month). With reminders like that, I wanted to take a moment to send this summer newsletter out to place some important dates and back to school information on your radar again.
As mentioned before in past meeting(s) and newsletters, most of the information can be found on our CMS school webpage at https://cms.gcisd.net/. Direct information from campus groups such as CMS STARS Dance, athletics, cheer, band etc. will come directly from those organizations.
I want to encourage you to check this principal newsletter often during the school year as it is another direct source of important information. Our social media pages, linked via corresponding pictures at the very bottom of this newsletter, are also good locations to get reminders, but not the primary information hub like our school website and principal newsletters. These newsletters are also archived on my personal school page for easy reference linked here. Please help us get the word out to our families and friends to check their spam email to look for these newsletters if they are not receiving them once registered in our Skyward school system.
Have a great next few weeks of summer, and we look forward to seeing all of our Colts next month on the 15th!

Pre-Athletics & Athletics Gear
There have been some slight changes to make the athletics gear purchasing process easier and more efficient this school year! We encourage you to pre-order your child's' gear before August 2nd if possible.
Extra clothing of each size will be available for exchange if your Colt grew over the summer. We want to make sure that everyone gets an order and not run out of any sizes, as well as not have leftover clothing sitting in closets. There is still plenty of time to get an order in before August 2nd!

Addendum to the CMS Construction letter below
CMS Construction
Colts,
It’s hard to believe that we are already in the month of May and we will soon be winding down another successful year at CMS! Before we disperse for summer break, I wanted to share some information with you regarding our campus and summer construction.
As part of the 2016 Bond, our campus will be receiving classroom door hardware for fire safety, some new air conditioning/heating equipment, a controlled vestibule area and a renovated learning commons. Over the summer, construction crews will work to create a new main entrance to our building where the controlled vestibule will be located. The general contractor has told us that this entrance will not be finished by the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, therefore while this work is being completed, students, parents and visitors can enter through the bus drop off entrance as well as by the band hall.
Once inside the vestibule, parents and visitors will notice new equipment and procedures. These technological additions will help further secure our campus. In addition to working with our construction program team, we have also been working with the GCISD Director of Emergency Management and School Security on these important changes. He is currently working on a video that will detail the new procedures and how to operate the equipment that will also help streamline our visitor process. We will be sharing that video with you in the next few weeks and will also send reminders close to the beginning of school.
Another piece of important information to share is the schedule that Lee Lewis Construction (LLC) has provided us. LLC has told us that all construction will not be complete by the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. The construction schedule shows achieving substantial completion of the renovations by October 18. They have assured us that our interior building spaces will be functional and the learning commons useable but not necessarily complete. In thinking about this, I would ask that you pardon the dust and help us show patience and flexibility as we work with LLC to allow them to work and finish. Obviously, as we go through the summer we will monitor progress and in August begin to communicate about any temporary conditions or processes for our return.
As we approach the beginning of the new school year, it will be imperative to check my newsletters for information. This is an exciting time at Colleyville Middle School and I look forward to enjoying these renovated spaces with our Colt family! If you have any specific questions regarding the construction work CMS renovations, please let me know.
