Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 24th May 2019
Homelessness and Refugee Week
Brilliant Bouncing
Please can sponsorship money be brought to school, or preferably paid in via ParentPay, by Monday 3rd June. Many thanks for your fantastic support of this event and to everyone who has already made donations via ParentPay.
Thank you also for all donations - and purchases - of baked goods for the cake stall organised by Year 6 in support of their chosen charities.
Learning about Homelessness and refugees
Homelessness and refugees
There was time for prayer and reflection and children looked at a range of images and considered what aspects of a refugee's life are similar and different to their own.
We have had a great week thinking about how lucky we are that we have so much and how we can in some small way help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Learning About the work of the YMCA in Ripon

A quackingly good duck race
Thank you Blanca
Today we say goodbye to our Spanish placement student Blanca, who has been working in Year 4 for the past three months. Blanca has been teaching the class maths and extra Spanish, helping us learn about her home town of Segovia (the most beautiful city in Spain she tell us) and Spanish culture.
On Thursday, the Year 4 classroom was transformed into a Spanish Chiringuito. The children played Spanish card and board games whilst snacking on fruit which they had to order in Spanish.
Muchos Gracias Blanca!
Reading Leaders
Emery provides a drawing of a book character this week as he is the first Year One Reading Leader. Congratulations Emery!
We are thrilled with the response to all the reading challenges we have set the children this year, with a growing number of successful Reading Stars and Reading Leaders. Thank you for all the parental support also.
Canal Open Day
A wedding in Year 1
Oscar's Polite Reminder
A growing number of parents are arriving for Breakfast Club without booking in their children. Staff are busy looking after the children or making breakfast at this time, so we really need everyone to use the booking system please. Similarly, please book ahead for after school sessions, thank you (although we are aware there can be the need for the odd last minute request!).
We have arranged with the PFI company who manage the school site to have access to school for Oscar's in the last two weeks of the summer holidays. Unlike schools in NYCC sites, we do not have full (or free!) access to school in the holidays, which can make running the holiday club more challenging. We do not plan to have any holiday club dates in the May half term break.
Our summer holiday dates are:
Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21st, Thursday 22nd August
Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th August
Booking is now open!

Non-Uniform Day: On Friday 14th June we are holding a non-uniform day. Come in your own clothes but instead of bringing a £1, donate 'jolly jars' or tombola prizes for the summer fair. Full details will be shared after half term.
Summer Fair: Saturday 22nd June sees our summer fair, running from 12 until 3.30pm. A fantastic family event open to the whole community: Bar, BBQ, Forest School activity and bouncy castle plus many more stalls and a special guest. As well as sponsorship from Hambleton Roofing, we have gained further generous support from local fireworks' company 'Bright Star Fireworks' and Renaissance Hair and Beauty Boroughbridge, which is amazing - thank you!
Fancy Dress Fun Run: We will be passing out sponsorship forms after the half term break for a fun run on the day of the fair. There will be a completion certificate for everyone and prizes for the best fancy dress and highest fundraiser. All sponsor forms and money will be due in before the event, more details to follow.
Summer Fair Helpers: There will be a rota for helpers on the day; if you can help please contact the Friends.
Summer Fair Stalls: Do you have your own business or know someone who would like a table top stall? Contact the school office for a form. Only £5 a stall!
Competition Tent: All children will be welcome to enter our competitions for the summer fair. We will be holding a Lego model, miniature garden, and drawing a picture on the story book theme competitions. New for this year, parents are invited to put their baking skills to the test. All cakes will be sold through a silent auction. The cake which raises the most money will win a prize for its creator!
School Disco: 5th July sees the last disco of the school year. Usual arrangements but more details to be published nearer the time.
