Kirk Fenton News

8th March 2019

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back after half term. This point in the year is when we start to take stock of progress so far and plan for the second half of the school year. Please ensure that you have booked an appointment for parents evening next week so that we can share your child's progress with you.

This week Year Two enjoyed a fabulous trip to the Yorkshire air museum to start their new topic. They represented us really well and I know they learnt lots that they will be sharing in their work over the coming weeks. Two Year Five boys represented our school at a coding event and had a great time programming robots and we have had a full range of sports going on in school too. The big event of the week was our World Book Day celebrations and it was lovely to see so many children dressed up and talking about and reading books. Thank you to all the parents who worked so hard to make brilliant costumes and to the Friends of Kirk Fenton for organising competitions and the book and cake stall. We are very grateful.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Karen Williams

As you may have noticed, the Police have been at school tackling the ongoing problem of parking during drop off and pick up. Parents that she spoke to will receive an official letter from them with regard to their parking offence. The Police will continue to monitor the situation on a regular basis. Please help us all to keep our children safe by parking responsibly and legally. Thank you.

World Book Day Events

We must start with a big thank you this week to everyone’s donations (money, books and cakes) for our World Book Day fundraisers. We’ve been sent lots of lovely photos to our Facebook page showing children really getting involved. It’s brilliant to see their passion for books and to know that they too are getting involved in raising funds for projects in their school. Thanks also to parent and teacher volunteers helping on the book and cake stalls this afternoon.

Success and spending

A quick report back on funds raised from recent events: Curry night including raffle raised £475 and the bag2school collection raised £100. This, added to previous fundraising, means that we are now able to fund another 10 Chromebook laptops, with software and a lockable charging trolley; a really valuable and necessary learning resource for our children.

Early Years and Year 1 Playgrounds – Clearance Sat 6th April - Please help!

Remember Ground Force? Well, Friends are organising a similar overhaul of the EY and Y1 playgrounds! Please let us know if you can help with the first stage of this, the clearance day, which will take place on Sat 6th April. The day will involve moving unwanted or broken things into a skip, jetwashing, sweeping down and a bit of pruning and tying back. Are you able to help? Please get in touch:

19th March Meeting

You are all welcome at our next meeting. 7.30pm Fenton Flyer, Tuesday 19th March. We will be discussing the Summer Fair, The Playground Project and a possible future project we want to raise money for. Come along if you want to find out more!
