Mustang Messenger for Parents
August 20, 2023
News for this Week
- Please be sure you have turned in all paperwork for the beginning of the year to your child's teacher.
- IMPORTANT: Parents of walkers should NOT drive and park to pick up students. This is not safe and it throws off our carlines at dismissal. Only true walkers will be released from the front of the school.
- The weekly newsletter can be translated to a variety of languages. Please click the "Translate" button on the top right side and select your language.
- El boletín semanal se puede traducir a una variedad de idiomas. Haga clic en el botón "Traducir" en la parte superior derecha y seleccione su idioma.

Parent Reminders
- Students may enter the school building starting at 7:00am. The school day begins promptly at 7:45am. Be sure your child is in the building before then. If your child needs breakfast, it is best to have him/her at school by 7:30am.
- Car riders should NOT enter at the front office door. That entrance is only for walkers and parents who need to do business in the front office.
- Please be sure any transportation changes are sent to the teacher, in writing the day of the change. We cannot accept these over the phone.
- Breakfast and lunch are free for all students this year. If you would like to put money on your child’s lunch account, you may do so through My School Bucks, cash, or check. If you would like to limit your child’s spending on snacks, you may do so by contacting our cafeteria manager, Julie Hardwick, at 355-6708.
- Parents are welcome to join students for breakfast. Please be sure to sign-in at the front office with your license first.
- Dismissal begins at 2:15pm. If you are not here by 2:30pm, you will need to go to the office with your driver's license to sign your student out.
Capturing Kids' Hearts
This year, Mitchell Road Elementary is continuing to utilize Capturing Kids’ Hearts to connect with our students. Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) focuses on the importance of building positive, meaningful relationships between staff and students, students and their peers, and between staff and families. Research shows that when students feel more connected to their school and staff, they achieve higher academic success and are less likely to have attendance, tardy or behavioral issues. Students thrive when they feel cared for and engaged.
During the first few weeks of our school year, teachers will do team-building and “get to know you” activities to build safe, unified learning communities within their classrooms. In addition to our school-wide Time Out signal, students will learn how to give and receive affirmations. Affirmations are a way for staff and students to positively support and encourage one another. For example, a student may say to another student, “Gina, I appreciate how you invited me to sit with you at lunch today. Since I am new to the school, I was afraid that I would have to sit alone. Thank you for including me.” We encourage you to add affirmations in your home whether it be parent to child or sibling to sibling. The Time-Out signal means to stop, match the signal, and listen. Ask your child to show you our school-wide Time-Out signal!
