A. A. Kingston Middle School
September 18, 2020
Dear A.A.K. Families,
We had a very strong week two at A.A.K. As staff, students, and families became more familiar with the new procedures and educational style, it will be easier for everyone. Now that we are in a little bit of a routine, we will be looking to get into more of our course content starting this week.
Students will be responsible to watch videos and complete assignments outside of the classroom (or virtual class time) to make sure they are prepared for their class meetings. During class time, staff will be working with students to support the material that they learned while not in class, and will be building connections between topics. Students always have time to look for assistance when they are at home by attending staff office hours that are available each day (Monday - Thursday).
For students attending at-home classes, it is important that you allow the teacher some time at the beginning of each session. Teachers are teaching in-person classes right until the time your remote session is to begin, and in most cases need to travel to another room to attend the remote class. It is important that you give them some time to get online for these times. For example, if your 3rd period class is scheduled to start at 8:50 am, please be on the google meet link at that time, but also give your teacher some time to enter the meeting.
Thank you for all the continued support as we focus on making sure our students and families are learning and staying safe during these difficult times.
If at anytime you are interested in making a change to your child's learning preference, please complete this form. Also remember that this will not be an immediate change as scheduling and space availability will impact this changes.
Monday, September 21 (Day 1)
Tuesday, September 22 (Day 2)
Wednesday, September 23 (Day 3)
Thursday, September 24 (Day 4)
Friday, September 25 (Day 5)
- All students are remote learners
Each year all AAK students take an I-ready diagnostics in reading and math. This is one of the data points that we look at when differentiating our instruction for students. Our in-person students started this diagnostic process last week and will continue in the coming weeks. Our at-home learners will be getting information this week about how they can login and begin the diagnostics process. Regardless of how the students are learning this school year, it is important to gather this information so that we can help support their strengths and weaknesses.
If your student will be taking the diagnostics at home, it is important that you allow them to complete this on their own. Some parts will be difficult and that is fine. There is no grade associated with this, but it is critical for us to see what they are capable of on their own.
Please check out the link below for more information about I-ready testing.
- At-home learners will be asked to pick up materials that will be needed for the month of October on Friday, October 2nd from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm. More information will be coming about this pick-up but I wanted to provide families with this information at this time for planning purposes.
Online Learning Meal Options
Potsdam Central School has scheduled meal kit pick-ups on Fridays between 11:30-12:30 p.m. for those families who have completed the online pre-order process. Families will be able to submit pre-orders starting on August 31.
Pre-orders must be made weekly to receive meal kits. The pre-order form will open every Monday with a deadline of every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in order to receive meal kits for the following week.
The cost of the meal kits will include the required number of breakfasts and lunches.
Families who have not applied for Free and Reduced-Priced benefits should submit a Family Meal Application to see if they qualify. Those who do not qualify for free or reduced meals will be required to pay at the time of pick up.
Here’s How to Get Started:
First, families who do not already have a Myschoolbucks.com login should create an account. There is no charge to create an account. You can access this account via web or mobile app. Here you can add money to your child’s account.
To create an account, parents will need to know their student’s school ID number. Students may know their number as they use it in the café on a normal basis. If you need help with getting the ID number please call 315-265-2000x472.
The new online ordering allows for parents to pick-up meal kits without their students having to be present. Families will need to order meals using the google order form. The form does need to be filled out weekly.
When parents arrive at the pick-up location, they will confirm with a staff member who they are picking up for.
