District Commitment To Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Norfolk Public Schools embrace the belief that all children are capable of learning and achieving at a high level. We also recognize that there are systemic and implicit biases/barriers that impact children's ability to achieve equitable outcomes. We believe that every child has inherent value and that schools should nurture their sense of self-worth. We believe that diversity makes us stronger and as a result we are committed to creating a learning community where students, families and staff feel a sense of belonging, have a voice that is heard and can see themselves represented throughout the school community and curriculum. We realize that the path towards equity is a journey that requires continuous learning, reflection and growth and we are dedicated to the on-going pursuit of this goal.
In order to support our district and regional efforts to create equitable and inclusive learning communities, the Norfolk, Wrentham, Plainville and King Philip School districts will be hiring a new regional Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. This is a fully grant funded position that will be shared across the four districts and will support professional development, strategic planning and community outreach in support of our equity goals.
We would like to provide our staff members, parents and community members with a voice in the search and hiring process. As a result, we will be sending out a brief survey tomorrow that will give parents and educators a chance to share what they feel are the most immediate priorities for a new Director. We are also interested in your opinion about which leadership qualities and qualifications you think are most critical for a candidate to be successful in this new role. Feedback from staff and parent surveys will be used by the search committee to inform interview questions and to help in the evaluation of potential candidates. Surveys must be completed and returned no later than Friday, February 5th at 12:00 p.m.
We look forward to having the new Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion join our educational team! We are hoping for an early March start date.
Have a great week,
Ingrid Allardi
Online Parent Portal
As part of our continued effort to reduce paper and limit our environmental footprint, the district will be implementing a new 'Parent Portal' where parents will be able to access information about their child's school attendance, as well as view his/her/their report cards. We will not be sending home hard copies of report cards next term, but will make the report cards available for you to review through the Parent Portal. If you do not have access to a computer or internet, hard copies will be made available upon request. Please be on the lookout next week as we will be sending an email with a link for you to register for an account!
