FOOD SERVICE….Did you know…………
Did you know that money on a student’s meal account will roll over to next year? Whatever money is on their account the last day of school will transfer to next year even if your student changes schools within the district. Negative balances will also transfer so it’s important to clear those up before the end of school.
Seniors – Any money left on a senior’s account can be refunded or transferred to a sibling’s account. Please contact the food service office.
Free and Reduced meal applications will be available for the 2018-2019 school year on July 9. You will be able to apply for the program online and it will be available at www.schoolcafe.com. We encourage you to use the online application process, as it will speed up the approval process. If you don’t have access to a computer, you can complete a paper application available in our Food Service office at 6701 W. 83rd St. in the Broadmoor Technical Center or at the school. A new application (per family) must be submitted each year. If you receive state assistance, call the food service office at 913-993-9710 before completing an application. Please apply before school starts so you can begin receiving your benefits the first day of school. It can take up to 10 days to process your application and you will be responsible for any meals your student buys before your application is processed.
Don’t forget – if your child receives free or reduced meals, they are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch per day as part of this benefit. All breakfast and lunch meal choices are available for all students regardless of eligibility status.
The school breakfast menus, lunch menus, and other nutrition information are available on the district’s website at http://foodservices.smsd.org.

Welcome to Shawnee Mission’s Acclaimed Summer Enrichment Program
Looking for something engaging for the kids to do this summer? Plan ahead before you hear those dreaded words, “I’m bored! ere is nothing to do!”
Thousands of students have spent their summers with the Shawnee Mission Summer Enrichment program learning through art, music, technology, science, and theatre, all while having a great time! Fun activities are waiting at Shawnee Mission’s Summer Enrichment program in all of our classes!
The Shawnee Mission Summer Enrichment program offers a variety of classes for children entering grades one through eight in the fall of 2018. Additionally, we have a program designed just for the little ones where students entering pre-k or kindergarten gain a few fundamental school readiness skills. Our program has been successful for over thirty years, with children returning year a er year to enjoy the interaction and stimulation provided by this enrichment format. Our program is also great for working families. Your children can arrive at 7:30 a.m. for early care, take a morning class, eat lunch and play at recess with their new friends, take an afternoon class, and then play some more until 5:30 p.m. in our late care. Your child remains engaged throughout the summer through a variety of activities in a safe and structured environment!
Take a look through our catalog. It is led with all the information you need to select classes and enroll. We look forward to having your child join in the fun at the Shawnee Mission Summer Enrichment program.
