Sydney Iconic Landmarks
A walking tour from The Rocks to The Opera House
Our Term 1 excursion
Wednesday 2nd April 2014
3C was very excited to get into the city on such a beautiful, sunny, Autumn day.
We saw so many impressive and interesting historic landmarks around Circular Quay.
We started from the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) and Cadman's cottage and travelled around to The Botanic Gardens and The Opera House.
Marilyn was our leader
We were lucky to have such a well-informed leader who knew so many interesting facts about the history of Sydney.
I wonder what was your favourite fact?
Five classes from Dural PS went on the excursion; 2/3M, 3/4O, 4D, 4/5WF and 3C
Cadman's Cottage
The oldest building in Sydney.
It was the home of the ex-convict who worked through the ranks to become a harbour captain.
Our walk began
The Tank Stream
The settlement was established here because there was good drinking water and safe anchorage for ships.
The mosaic map shows Sydney as it was in the early days.
We had plenty of energy at the start of our walk.
Customs house
The ships used to be checked by government officers based here.
We loved looking at the city from a bird's eye view.

Lands Department
Maps of the country were built up from information gathered by explorers. The explorers set out on expeditions to discover more about the continent.
The statues are tributes to these explorers.
The kids were happy to see the Opera House
