Problem/Goal
Apartheid was the problem in South Africa in the 1900's. Apartheid is a way to separate the races. Apartheid means being apart. They made apartheid because whites thought they were superior to others.
Key Episodes or Events
The apartheid lefts blacks with no clean water, no clean food, no clean place to sleep, not much education, lacked electricity, lacked plumbing, couldn't marry whites, and some South Africans citizenship were taken away from the blacks. For more than 40 years, people inside and outside of South Africa protested against apartheid. Many countries cut off trade with South Africa because of apartheid.

Nelson Mandela played a huge role in apartheid. He was an anti-apartheid activist. He rebelled against apartheid and was arrested in 1962 for being such a major protester. Once apartheid ended he was elected president of South Africa in 1994. F.W. de Klerk also played huge role in apartheid. He was the seventh and last State President of apartheid-era South Africa. He made the decision to end apartheid and free people like Nelson Mandela.
Where/When
Apartheid happened in South Africa in 1948 and ended in 1991. It started because the white Europeans thought they were superior to others. F.W. de Klerk ended apartheid because he knew it was wrong. He released all the people that were fighting for what they believed in.
