Alan Turing was a mathematician, the founder of computer science, philosopher and a codebreaker. He was born on 23rd June 1912 in London and died 7th June 1954. He studied in Cambridge University and eventually worked in Quantum Mechanics.

The Bombe
He played an essential role in breaking the enigma codes that the Germans were using. This provided information to the Allies. He was the leader of the team that made the machine called ‘The Bombe’. This machine could break codes in hours.
The Enigma Machine
The Enigma machine is a piece of spook hardware invented by a German and used by Britain's codebreakers as a way of deciphering German signals traffic during World War Two. As a result of the information gained through this device, hostilities between Germany and the Allied forces were cut short by two years.
