Day of Animals Publishing Event
Ms. Shunnarah and Ms. Roth's first grade students have been working hard researching and writing nonfiction books about their favorite animal. Students also created dioramas to reflect their animal's habitat. This past week, students presented their research and exhibits to parents, staff, community members, and their peers. We are excited to share with you our first publishing event, and look forward to many more!

Recycling Has Returned to Evansdale...
At long last, school-wide and commingled recycling is here at Evansdale! On Thursday, April 27 our recycling Dumpster arrived! On Friday, April 28 our classroom bins arrived (40) along with our wheel carts for larger areas such as the teacher's lounge (3). The classroom bins were in place by May 5th.
Recyclable (for dumpster and bins):
all plastics (1-7 which means any plastic with a number)
mixed paper (including newspaper, magazines, copy paper, loose leaf paper, tissue boxes, paper towel rolls, etc.)
cardboard
aluminum cans
shrink wrap
NOT recyclable:
GLASS
ink/toner cartridges
napkins/paper towels/Kleenex
batteries
Styrofoam
Food
Milk cartons/juice boxes
Plastic strapping (from copy paper boxes)
Construction debris
paper with a wax coating (the paper that copy paper comes wrapped in, for example)
Within the last six months over 2,000 recycling centers in California alone had to close their doors due to budget. Every time you put something in the recycling bin that cannot be recycled, the recycling plant has to pay to dispose of the item.
When in doubt, leave it out. Especially with our recent STEM certification, I couldn't be more excited for Evansdale to go green! I taught my students how to recycle and we've been doing it in our room since the beginning of the year.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Perry
Teacher & Recycling Coordinator
