Mrs. Reitz Receives Innovative Learning Grant from CB Cares

Always thinking of how to bring the history of ancient times to life for her 7th Grade Social Studies students, Mrs. Christa Reitz applied for an Innovative Learning Grant offered by CB Cares Educational Foundation. This week and next, the University of Pennsylvania's History Museum will come to Tamanend via the internet to share real archaeologists' work and actual artifacts of the ancient civilization of Pompeii. Thanks to CB Cares and Mrs. Reitz, all of the 7th graders were able to participate.

Over the years, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., January has become the month where we focus on service. Service to Others is the Boomerang Asset of the month, and in CBSD middle schools, the focus of our Advisory times is service. So, it is perfect that during this month of service we kick off our KAD school-wide service project; our Music Department has their annual VH-1Save the Music Concert; and our students have the opportunity to attend the MLK Peace and Social Justice Summit. Learn more about these service events below.

KAD Kick Off

Today we welcomed Mrs. Peggy Dolan for our Kelly Anne Dolan Kick Off Assembly. This will be the 18th year that Tamanend Middle School partners with the KAD Memorial Foundation to raise money to support families of chronically or terminally ill children in paying for things not covered by insurance. Tamanend's official KAD Day is on February 24th but there will be numerous ways to help raise money leading up to that. As you may recall, we have already had holiday in lieu of gift cards available which raised $1,425 already for this year's drive. Stay tuned for more information about events that you can enjoy while supporting our KAD Day efforts.

Bucks County Teen Peace and Social Justice Summit

The 5th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bucks County Teen Peace and Social Justice Summit will take place THIS Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at William Tennent High School. All students in Grades 7-12 are welcomed to attend and participate in this event. Attendees will hear from various inspirational speakers and will have the opportunity to participate in round table discussions with their peers in facilitated sessions. Pizza will be provided at the conclusion of the event. Should you have questions regarding the event, please see or email Mrs. Leatherbarrow for further details. To register for this event, please complete the registration form.

Nominate a TMS Student for Boomerang Recognition

CB Cares Educational Foundation recognizes and supports the students of Central Bucks School District for living by the 40 Developmental Assets. This month's asset is Service to Others: Young person values service to others, in their family, school, or community. He/she commits to meaningful and caring actions.

Anyone can nominate a Tamanend student. Parents/Guardians, grandparents, neighbors, siblings, friends... the more students nominated, the more there is to celebrate!

Please click here to submit your Boomerang nomination. Nominations are due Monday, January 22.
