PRINCIPAL'S PERSPECTIVE

Welcome and Welcome Back!

I hope you had fun this summer, and I hope you are relaxed, recharged, and ready to start a new school year. I am so honored to serve as your new principal and excited that you are part of our amazing learning community. It is so welcoming to experience and value your positive energy and commitment to our children. The staff and I plan to partner with you in celebration and dedication to ensuring excellence in education.

This year will be an incredible and productive school year. Our energetic and dedicated staff is already planning and preparing innovative lessons, activities, and projects-based learning for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic leadership team, communication director, and data management team are working in collaboration to register new families, order needed materials, new technology and update student files. Our hard working and conscientious cleaners have spent the summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. Staff is gearing up and planning an awesome orientation process to welcome families on Monday. Our much-appreciated PTO is diligently working on providing volunteer opportunities and are offering other exciting events and programs for our FAST families and staff.

New Programs

We piloted new, hands-on, researched based programs during our summer school, and are happy to announce that we have purchased a few of these exciting programs. Please reach out to Mary Miller, Assistant Principal for more details about these programs.

New Staff

We are delighted to welcome new additions to our staff. They are eagerly waiting to meet you during orientation on Monday, August 8th. Also, ‘Your Guide to FAST Orientation Day’ went out yesterday and is posted on our website.

Facilities

We have been working in partnership with our service providers (i.e., janitorial services, exterminators, modular classrooms, etc.) to assure our buildings are ready for our students.

Thank you to all for your continued commitment. FAST remains a celebrated and successful awe-inspiring school. I eagerly look forward to meeting you on Monday. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all our children. I look forward to working with you and your children.

My Warmest Regards,

Dr. Kay Williams

Our vision: To be recognized as a premier STEM school that creates and nurtures the next generation of innovators, problem solvers, and leaders.

HAPPENINGS

Lunch

Yay Lunch will be our new lunch vendor by September 12. Until they begin, all of our students will need to bring lunch every day. Click HERE for FAQs from Yay Lunch. We hope to provide a short term option before Yay Lunch starts, but please plan to pack lunch to start the year.

If you think you are eligible for a free or reduced lunch, please contact ron.rhodes@fastk8.org. This is a confidential matter.

Orientation

Monday, August 8 is Orientation. You will pick up schedules, meet teachers, visit classrooms, and turn in forms such as the device agreement. You will be able to, drop off medication for clinic. You will also be able to register for our after school MicroSociety, Extended Care, and Enrichment Clubs.

  • 9:00 am - 11:00 am - students with last names beginning with A-K

Kindergarten meeting is at 9:30 am in your child's classroom.

  • 12:30 - 2:30 pm - students with last names beginning with L-Z

Kindergarten meeting is at 1:00 pm in your child's classroom.

Because of the nature of the day, teachers will be trying to connect with lots of parents. If you need to address specific matters related to your child, set aside a different time to talk with staff.

Carpool

We encourage all of our families to carpool if they can in the interest of efficiency, economy, and ecology. To help facilitate carpools, we have created a way for you to connect. You may add your information by completing this form. Once you have added your information, you will be granted read-only access to the spreadsheet of other families looking to connect.

As you drive through carpool, please be sure to heed the direction of our staff in the parking lot. Please be respectful to our staff and other parents as we move cars through as quickly as we can while still ensuring the safety of our students. Carpool will be much slower during the first few weeks than it will be for the rest of the year. Students and parents will be learning the process and our teachers will be getting to know the students.

If you are new to FAST, please take a moment to watch the video below to familiarize yourself with the carpool route.

If you or someone you know has teaching experience and would like to be a substitute teacher for FAST, please complete this application and email it to mary.miller@fastk8.org. You will need to save a copy of the application to complete it.

Enrollment is open for Extended Care (Mondays-Fridays 3:30-6:30 pm), and for MicroSociety (Fridays 12:30-3:30 pm). Registration must be completed online annually.
