This week in SELF
As the second semester gets started, some of the 9th grade SELF classes will begin the semester with a day of cooking and team-building games while the other 9th grade cohorts learn from their counselors about course selection and four-year planning (the following week, the cohorts will switch activities). The 10th grade SELF classes will also be cooking food with each other and playing team-building games, and the 11th grade SELF classes will be exploring the stress management techniques of mindfulness and self-care.
All three grade levels of SELF are beginning new units this semester:
9th: Exploring Identity and Respecting Diversity
10th: Understanding My Brain
11th: Resilience and Stress Management
Also, please take a moment to check out two informational pieces that the SELF program has produced for the Gunn community: our biannual newsletter, and our write-up and analysis of survey and focus group data. These resources are designed to help the community get a better sense of what the SELF program is all about, what topics and activities the different grade levels have been working on this past semester, how you can interact with your students about the topics covered in the program, and what goals we'll be focusing on as the program continues to evolve. As always, feel free to reach out to the two SELF program coordinators if you have any questions or feedback: ccarlomagno@pausd.org and tfirenzi@pausd.org. Welcome back, everyone!
