Facility Updates
TK Shade!
This Spring the TK playground will be getting a new shade structure over the swings, ship structure, and the sand box. Exciting since it gets very hot out there!
Ag Structure
There will be a new addition to the OV farm this summer, an Ag structure that will be able to house goats, lambs, and rabbits for 4H.
PE Outdoor Fitness Stations
The students will have new fitness equipment available to them next year. They will be stations that will be placed around the outfield fence line that include pull up bars, parallel bars, sit up stations, and more.
Solar
Oak Valley will be getting solar! This will be in the form of two shade structures on the blacktop and by middle school as well as panels out in the unused field area.
Roofing Project
Our older roofs have taken a hit this winter season. Therefore there will be new roofs added this summer to the 200, 300, 400, 500 and the library. Hopefully this will take care of the leaks!
New TK Classrooms
Due to the new state requirement to offer TK, OV will be building two new TK classrooms in order to house the potential increase of TK students. The classrooms will be ready for the 2024-25 school year.
Oak Valley Safety Measures That Are In Place
One Point of Entry
There is only one point of entry to the school site and at 8:30am all visitors have to be buzzed into the office. Additionally, over spring break there will be an additional camera added to the front door.
Cameras
Thirty additional cameras were added and upgraded this year. This allows administration to view any camera at any time. The Principal keeps the camera views on in her office on a large TV monitor.
ActVnet
Actvnet is a countywide program that OV participates in. If there is a threat on campus, the Sheriff's department is notified immediately and dispatch taps into our camera system. Dispatch become the eyes for the deputies and they can identify where the threat is more efficiently through dispatch communication. Staff is notified immediately of a lock down and they can communicate to administration/Sheriffs via computers or cell phones through ActVnet.
SRO (Security Resource Officer)
There is a Sheriff Deputy (SRO) assigned to Oak Valley 2 days a week. The SRO is shared with two other small neighboring school districts. The SRO is on call the other 3 days of the week for any emergencies or other minor incidences if available.
Ongoing Safety Training
All staff have had the opportunity to been trained in Active Shooter and Mental Health First Aid the past year. The school performs monthly fire drills and quarterly lockdown drills. All staff are up-to-date with their first aid training as well.
Instructional Updates
Math Coach
OV is adding a math instructional coach to focus on math instruction and student performance. A lot of our recent focus has been on literacy and it will continue to be monitored but now administration feels comfortable moving towards focusing on math performance.
Interven-tions
The district continues to have an intervention room that is lead by an Intervention Teacher and 4 instructional aides. They perform small group and 1:1 intervention for any student who is falling behind. The success of the program is evident by there being an increase of students exiting reading intervention. So much so that now it will offer additional math intervention. Less than 15% of our students are in tier 2 intervention which is under the national norm.
Full Time Theater Arts
Due to Proposition 28, all schools are receiving additional funding for Visual and Performing Arts education. Oak Valley will being using its funds to increase the Theater Arts teacher to full time. So, every student (TK-8th) will now have the opportunity to participate in theater arts sometime throughout the year. How exciting!!
